Some movies I've recently seen:
Ivan's Childhood (1962) - Excellent movie about a 12 year Russian boy who is a scout on the front line in WWII. Not much action, but tense and artfully shot. Compared to Tarkovsky's other movies the pacing is quite brisk and plot more straightforward. One of the better anti-war movies. 8/10
SPL: Kill Zone (2005) - Entertaining police action/thriller from Hong Kong. A dying police inspector tries to take out a crime boss at any cost before he retires. A bit over the top in some aspects but entertaining overall. Good fight scenes. 7/10
Bring Me the Head of Alfred Garcia (1974) - Not sure what to think of this. Some good scenes throughout, but it's slow at times and most the characters have little redeeming features. Not bad but I was expecting better. 6/10
Slaughterhouse-Five (1972) - Odd sci-fi/drama about a man who becomes unstuck in time, uncontrollably moving in time from his birth to his death. Strange story but an interesting film, quite funny at times and certainly never dull. Goes from scenes of WWII to scenes of life on a faraway planet. Hard to categorize but I liked this. 7.5/10
Drag Me to Hell (2006) - Decent horror movie. Funny at times, kinda ridiculous plot but doesn't really matter. Not the best horror movie ever, but had a great ending. 6/10
