The Foreigner - Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan. If you're Jackie Chan fan then you will love this movie imo. Probably one of his best movie although we see a different side of JC - a more serious tone movie rather than his usual action/comedy. 9/10

Lucky enough to go with two absolute pearlers tonight.

Don’t Tell - new Aussie courtroom drama based on the true story of the catholic Brisbane boarding school sexual misconduct scandal of the 90s. All star Aussie cast in a very understated brutal and harrowing story of the case that changed the landscape of the catholic school set up Australia wide. Not for the feint hearted but absolutely must watch cinema. 9/10

Wind River - based on another true story this is the last in Tyler Sheridan’s western frontier modern saga (sicario and hell of high water being the others) Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen shine in a brilliant cut very non shiny film. Much like don’t tell this is rough to sit through but one of the best films of the year. 9.5/10

Naked (1993) - I originally watched this at the cinema what seems like an eon ago now & promptly forgot about it until recently when watching one of the director Mike Leigh's more recent movies, Mr Turner, which is also very good. Warts & all if you like that sort of thing, very funny at times & a great performance by David Thewlis made this an enjoyable revisit - 8/10.

Acting on the advice of this board, put my distaste for Ben Affleck aside and watched Argo

Really enjoyable, awesome story, entertaining and tense.

Affleck still pisses me off with his douche face and penchant for American flag imagery.

But a ripping story well told 4/5

Was surprised to see Coco screening at my local today so took the wife and kid down to see it.

I really had no idea what was going to happen, it was good, kept the kid riveted and unlike the good dinosaur I'll be happy to watch this one again

Yesterday while staying inside from the rain and/or cold, did an 80s movie marathon. Some Kind of Wonderful, followed by The Breakfast Club, rounding out with Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

No idea how this will play for audiences unfamiliar with The Room because so much of it is predicated on knowledge of. The best comparison is obviously Ed Wood but this isn't that good - funnier, but far narrower and not as human. Franco's performance (or impression) is killer though and if he gets that Oscar nod it's going to be a surreal awards show.

I have never heard of The Room until this weekend thanks to Honest Trailers (highly recommend on YouTube).

Plan on checking it out tomorrow.

Knocked out some classics id never seen

The Untouchables
I found this a struggle. Great cast, but almost cartoonish. Costner as well... how the hell did he become a star? Plodding movie that didnt seem to be able to get it together with any emotional impact.
5/10

Death Wish

I love Bronson. Massive fan. But after the abuse and comittal of his daughter and murder of his wife, he acted like his favourite cereal was out of stock at woolies. Other than that the dark new york stuff was great. Not bad, and i can see why they made so many.

Very strange, hilarious at times and somewhat bleak at most others. Interesting comment on finding love in our society.

Saw The Disaster Artist this afternoon, thought it was brilliant, got funnier the longer it went, had no knowledge of The Room beforehand.

Only the Brave is another great one out at the moment, about a firefighting team in Arizona. Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connolly all good. Can't get enough of the biographical dramas like Patriot's Day, Deepwater Horizon, Hacksaw Ridge

My only regret is not watching this with a group of people just to see and hear their reactions to this.

Once I heard that this was "the Citizen Kane of bad movies" then you know it's going to be bad so you have that expectation. It was soo much worse than I ever imagined. I'm kinda speechless at the moment about how bad it was.

I highly recommend people experience this. You will laugh and you will cry.

Only the Brave

Thought it was going be another Deepwater Horizon-esque cash-in on recent American tragedy but it's so surprisingly emotional raw and really works on that front where so many disaster biopics fail. Huge gut punch of an ending too (made all the more effective by how it makes you feel toward some of these characters).

I just found this review on IMDB which is pretty damn funny:

This film is like getting stabbed in the head.

You know that foreign exchange student from high school who used to creep out all the girls with his clumsy leering and broken-English pick-up lines? Well, he's all grown up and somebody gave him money to make a film. Tommy Wiseau, whose accent could best be described as "half-drunk Croatian cyborg", stars as Johnny, the man with the most sculpted ass in all of San Francisco. His girlfriend Lisa, played by oft-topless Juliette Danielle, seduces his best friend, played by department store mannequin Greg Sestero. To go any farther with the plot would be overdignifying this laugh-out-loud crapfest. Imagine a two-hour episode of "Red Shoe Diaries" written and directed by Balki from "Perfect Strangers". Trust me, this is the worst movie you will ever see ever in your entire life. Ever. But is it pathetically awful or sadistically hilarious? What you think will depend on your life experiences and viewpoint. But we can all agree, it's a big, steaming nut-filled turd.
