Game of Thrones is better than The Lord of the Rings. Short answer why is it was made for adults.

The battles and fights in Game of Thrones are generally two people or two groups of people you like. They're complex. Who wins and loses matters.

The Lord of the Rings, all the humans are good (or close enough) and the enemy is goblin apes with face paint nobody cares about led by an evil eye in the distance who is just evil for the sake of being evil. You know right from the start who's going to win whenever it matters.

The Lord of the Rings was made with kids in mind. Game of Thrones shouldn't be watched by children at all. Ironically, the child characters in Game of Thrones are more interesting and fun than Frodo and his fellow child surrogate pals ever were.

"But The Lord of The Rings is a classic work of literature blah blah blah my childhood"

Predictable post from someone who thinks they’re smarter than everyone.

LoTR movies are perfect.

They weren't bad movies, the visual effects etc were great and so forth, but on the whole there was a forced feeling to me. Middle-earth and the people in it never felt like something that could be real in an alternate reality (like Westeros in Game of Thrones does). This is a series that picked up Best Picture at the Oscars. Who is Frodo? He loves his friends and wants to save the world by destroying the ring. Fair goals in his reality. But who is he outside that? Can Frodo even be described without saying what his role is in the movie or what he looks like? No. Maybe that's completely fine in a book but it was not a book. They were movies and he wasn't the only character like this. Aragorn was an exception and the best character in it. Frodo and Samwise get a 30-minute epilogue. Why?

Movies don't have to have levity (some great movies are incredibly depressing) but The Lord of The Rings played it completely straight yet in a way that a 12-year-old could watch it and not be confused.

50 First Kisses - 7.5/10

Japanese remake of 50 First Dates. Thought it was well done whilst having a combination of old humorous scenes and it's own which I greatly enjoyed.

The Merger

Aussie comedy/drama about a footy club in Wagga Wagga. Not as funny as The Castle but along those lines.

Two of the best Aussie comedians, Aaron Gocs and Nick Cody are in it. Despite not many lines I can't help but love Gocssys Cameo.

7/10

I saw Damian Callinan's one-man show of this Thursday night at the Fringe. Really enjoyed it.

The Fifth Element (1997): One of those films i've seen bits and pieces of but never sat down to watch the whole thing. Just a zany fun watch.
Bruce Willis been given some great roles and films. When Gary Oldman won the academy for playing Churchill recently this is what they were paying him back for lol 8/10
