Skyfall. 2012.

It's got some good James Bondy stuff in there like the Aston Martin but the plot is ridiculous.

If Silva had wanted to kill M he could have done it any time. He didn't need to plan for many years to -

get a guy to steal a hard drive that had the names of all the agents​

so that Bond would fight the guy on the roof of a train​

then later fight him in Shanghai, kill him and find a gambling chip​

that would lead him to a casino in Macau, where he would meet a beautiful woman who would agree to take him on a yacht to Silva's deserted island​

so that Silva could deliberately get himself captured so that they would put him in a glass cell at the new HQ​

so that they would hack into his computer but it hacked them back so that it released him from the glass cell​

so that Bond would chase him on tube trains then into a specific tunnel under London where Silva had placed a bomb that would cause a train to crash towards Bond​

which would delay him getting to the government meeting where Silva was planning to kill M​

They laid the breadcrumbs to Bond's parents house in Scotland but M didn't have to actually be there.

I agree, but i also see the point, it is pretty nonsensical. Most of the good spy films are to a degree.

And yet, its a masterpiece.

Voldemort in Goblet of Fire is also killed with just an ounce of common sense.

Everyone - Well even if he actually did hes underage, and we already have the Howarts champion, everyone happy if we shrug and let Harry stay as a spectator

I'm going through this with Mum right now. It's so heart breaking. I think it's worse this time because, after watching my Grandma suffer, I know what I'm in for. Don't know if I want to see this movie.

Sorry to hear that. That's the reason why I couldn't watch the movie Still Alice when it came out in 2012. Dad died almost 17 years ago and my mum almost five years ago now so I decided to watch The Father since time had passed. As I said in my earlier post, it brought back memories from those times so it was very persoal to me. Best wishes to you your family and your mum.

Law Abiding Citizen is another movie where the main character deliberately gets himself captured so he can carry out his masterplan.

Dad died almost 17 years ago and my mum almost five years ago now so I decided to watch The Father since time had passed. I found Nomadland to be Fury Road minus costumes and action. So, utterly boring.

Nothing interesting happened, there was no character development, there were no great insights on life.

Into The Wild is a much better movie about living from day to day on the road in America.

That's not what it was about IMO.

It was about grieving and loss. To be fair, it didn't make this point to the end of the movie but was glad it tied together at the end.

But yeah, quite slow movie. Beautiful and sad.

James Cameron directed this

Ripley is sent back to the aliens planet as a consultant for a group of marines who are looking to find why a colony has gone quiet

Apart from Bill Paxtons overacting everyone mostly did a good job with what they had

As an aside historians will look back at this and pinpoint it exactly to the 1980s just based on Paul Reisers clothes and hairstyle

I'm always amazed how Bill Paxton's character got through the psych tests! Great actioner though,all time favourite.

Minari. 2020.

It's well acted and competently made. I found it watchable if nothing special and a bit too long. There wasn't really an ending, the movie just stopped with the main issues unresolved. The grandma and the crazy Christian guy were interesting characters. I would have rather seen a movie about either of them.

in honor of today being a pagan festival day i watched Midsommar again. People say its not a rewatchable but i disagree. I am a sucker for films like this (eg Wicker Man the british one) and i did "enjoy" it just as much as the first time. Even at almost 3 hours i was hooked throughout. 8/10

Goldeneye is a pillar of the action adventure genre. The rest of bonds stuff was average.

Craigs run has been more Bourne than Bond just in nicer locations but it’s a mile removed from Connery.

Predestination.

I think I’ve had this on some form of watch list for 4-5 years. It didn’t disappoint.

Sensational time travel thriller with enough twists to turn your brain to mush. If you like the genre do yourself a favour 9/10

GoldenEye gets forgotten as it's a Bond movie but as a stand alone action it's one of the finest of its era.

Just finished The Mauritanian on Amazon Prime.

Two things:

1) Decent enough film with compelling lead performances from the Guantanamo detainee and the two lawyers - even if Benedict Cumberbatch's accent was mediocre at times
2) It is based on a true story and it is f***ed we allowed Guantanamo to happen. Why on earth is it still open, and why are we not rallying harder against this?

Metal Skin (1994) - Dark, angst-ridden Aussie fare, a young Aden Young gives a brilliant performance, some of the other characters seemed to almost be written as a parody of the genre, I love cars so it was fun to see. I wouldn't call it a classic though. Written and Directed by Geoffrey Wright (this was his follow up to Romper Stomper.) 6/10.

I enjoyed this movie. The truth about apparent suicides separated by 20 years is gradually revealed by a well written script, with a nice twist in the tail. Eric Bana has great screen presence, as does Matt Nable though he doesn't have a lot to work with here. There's a really nice rendition of Under The Milky Way by BeBe Bettencourt who appears in the film (daughter of Nuno Bettencourt and Suze DeMarch).
