Continued in Part 7:

Top Gun

In anticipation of the sequel. duck me this movie slaps. 8/10 cause Kelly McGillis is not hot and never was.

I haven't watched it since my parents showed me it when I was a kid, and I showed my partner the movie last week. I couldn't help but cringe at heaps of it actually, was almost surprised. I guess I shouldn't be surprised as it's a 1980s movie but it just made me curious as to what I should expect from the sequel.

I think if you watched it recently and didn’t enjoy the nostalgia and ridiculousness of it all then the sequel might not be for you personally.

Yeah, well as I said I watched it probably when I was 12 so it's been a while. Just didn't remember it having those cringeworthy moments but I did overall enjoy the ridiculousness of it for the most part. Had to appreciate it for what it is, was just saying it was a shock to have so many cringe moments, but I am excited for the sequel this weekend.

Got a broken leg so more time for films -

Sweet Country (Netflix, 2017) - Australian Western about an aboriginal man fleeing justice after killing a white man in self defense. Well directed and acted with bleak themes about race. Glad to have seen it but not a fun watch. 7/10.

The Bridges Of Madison County (Netflix, 1995) - Added this to my "to watch" list after seeing an awesome review awhile ago by a poster on here. Suffice to say this didn't disappoint. A heartfelt romance movie with fantastic performances from Eastwood and Streep. 8.5/10.

FIRESTARTER: If you've read the Stephen King book or seen the 1984 Drew Barrymore movie this is a different adaptation. Charlie is slightly older (11yo) to the 84 edition (8yo) and just over 90 minutes (the 84 version is just under 2 hours).

Excellent CGI and special effects and a nice reworking of a classic novel. NOT FOR KIDS. Wonderful CARRIE-esque homage at the end and a wonderful 80s horror movie score by the "Master of the Macabre" John Carpenter.

I re-watched the 84 version last night before this late night screening. Both better than average but if you're a Stephen King fan like me you'll enjoy it.

The only comments I have seen about this movie is people shitting on it from a great height. Any idea why people wouldn't like it? It sounds like it doesn't stick to the source material very well and maybe this is causing some blowback but as a shut your mind down and watch s**t on fire does it work pretty well?

Don't compare it to the book
Don't compare it to 84 Dino Delaurentiis
Treat it as you haven't seen the 84 or read the book

In all seriousness the first 2 American Ninja flicks will always be the best with Dudikoff and James.

RIP Steve James, definitely taken too soon. He was signed to star as Jaxx in Mortal Kombat, probably would have been a breakout role.

you get that not being true to the book or original will piss off fans yeah?

Wrong. The correct answer is American Ninja 4: The Annihilation
oh man
I have not watched those movies for years and I worry they will be terrible because I did watch them a lot growing up and most of the movies I did that with were terrible haha

No Time To Die- 5/10. Not the worst, enjoyed Ramis performance. But they really dropped the ball after Casino Royale. What a platform it was. They should have introduced Blowfeld straight after in quantum of solace. Everything that came after seemed like a contrived afterthought rather than the preplanned story it should have been. Relationships sold as deep connections seemed shallow

Old School

Very funny. The BJ class had me in tears. 3.5/5

You’re not Romulus sucking from the teet of the Mother Wolf has stuck with me for decades. Such a random reference.

I think they had legal/licensing issues with Bloefield and SPECTRE from memory, hence they had like 4 organizations standing in for SPECTRE.
