What's wrong with Collingwood?

Going into this game we were like most of the competition on 3-4.

Just remember, whilst we have half-a-dozen or so players out, you are ONE injury away from a bottom 4 finish.

Agree on Mick and his game plan though.
Which player is that then? Can't be Fev, he hardly touched the ball today, didn't kick a goal, and we still flogged the Pies.

Was a very ordinary game today. We should have won by a good 80 points (Anything less than a win would have been questionable). Even though we won, we still had quite a few passengers and didn't play our best football. Hopefully this is the boost our boys need to get them back onto the winning wagon and string some wins together.

Yep, Presti did well on Fev, however that player is Fev.

You still would have beaten us today without Fev based on our outs. That's not an excuse, just fact.

Last week he played poorly and you lost. This week, it was a game as Kouta put it "no excuses" for the Blues and you rightly won.

However, if Fev goes down, the season is bleak.

The injury situation doesn't help but all teams have injury problems, the main factor is that Mick's message has worn out just like it had at WCE.
It happens to all coaches eventually and when it does it's time for a change of coach and direction and that will happen in 2010 and I feel that Collingwood will make it known within the next four weeks.

Well, for a start, they don't actually have a single elite player.
MM has got them to perform at their best for the last 10 years, but they are done.

They have someone posing as one but geez you really have to wonder about their choice. I couldn't see him captaining any other AFL side.

They have to give it to Pendlebury next year. Surely.

We have internal problems, our players have next to zero confidence, our coach has exceeded his stay and we have lost our structure through injuries. Watching Carlton today I can't say I was that concerned about the progress they have made. We are in a heap at the minute.

On the plus side we have drafted well and think we have enough to work with going forward to be a very good football side. Unlike Carlton we will not be reliant on midfield that in the next 2-3 years will rely entirely on Judd & Murphy.

Personally I think a couple of nice draft picks this year will put us right on course to be a very very good football team with sustained dominance. I hope Mick doesn't start coaching to save his career if the best result this year is 9th.

There were three pigeons parked at CHF that had more influence on the game than L Brown, FFS why can't this bloke just retire NOW, he aint no AFL footballer,a curse on MM for picking him week in week out, honestly he makes T Thoolen look good.

Collingwood injuries:

Cloke - over-rated (2-3 weeks) best and fairest in a prelim final year, having a bad run of form
Davis - hot and cold but a good player (test) most consistent year ever last year
Didak - good player (1 week)
Fraser - average ruckman (test)
Johnson - average player (3-4 weeks) good player that gives us much run and carry
Medhurst - good player (test)
Rusling - not a senior player (test) 21 year old with broken cheekbone, 4 weeks

6 senior players injured, most not long-term. Didak and Medhurst are good players missing, Davis also a reasonable player out, should easily cover the others.

We went in against Geelong without Harvey, Wells, Campbell, Smith, Hansen, Pratt, Rawlings. Others missing as well who are not quite in our best side yet. We aren't making lame injury excuses though and weren't playing a second rate side either. :p

this post is a joke, that many errors that your credibility (like our form at the moment) is shot, stick to commenting on your own 3rd rate team if you have a team after this year. shitful on and off the field equals an opportunity to go to the gold coast and survive that was passed up, north will surely expire within 2 years.
dont make up facts just to try and sound smart in the future, you fail.

collingwood have a lot of injuries and a lot of old has-beens. They have up for tooo long and now lack very good young players. They have a lot of good young players but no stars for the exception of pendelbery and anthony to an extent. Thomas is not a star, he's a fair way from making it. Collingwood do lack a bit of depth and maturity.

Been saying it all year. They basically don't have a captain

our best player last week and reasonable today.
maybe we need to go out and buy one like carlton, btw, how are you guys going to be able to afford him now that your major cash flow has been cut off?

They remind me of 2007 Melbourne, complete with hardworking but B grade forward J Anthony (B Miller), midget ruckman Fraser (White), useless backline and out-of-date coach.

Need to start building a team around their stars and young guns Thomas, Davis, , Pendlebury, Didak, N Brown, Cloke, start drafting better (Cox, Brown, Toovey, Rusling, not great work), and get a coach who understands modern football.

I don't have a lot of sympathy because they have everything my club doesn't, resources, profile, moolah, facilities.

players over 30

  • o'bree - serviceable, gets plenty of possessions, no worse or better than last year
  • presti - great year so far, been the rock the backline needs
  • rocca - probable last year, difficulty finding form after long injury lay-off
pendlebury is a star and i would put didak and davis in that category as well. swan and medhurst would be there as well, but not right as we speak. leigh brown is useless and will not be here next year.
so much for a lot of old has-beens:rolleyes:

you can add passionate members that give a shit about their team to that also.
useless backline my arse, the forwards aren't kicking enough goals, thats the problem. the midfielders aren't getting first use of the ball and it gets pumped down into our backline before we know it and the backs are constantly under the pump.
our backline is preventing us from getting 20 goal hidings.
btw, we have the above mentioned qualities because we've worked our arses off over the years. melbourne expects things to be handed to them because they are "the oldest sporting club in the world". you clowns got rid of gutnick who was your version of pratt, talk about biting the hand that feeds you, your problems have stemmed from the day you gave him the bullet. get your members off their arses and out of the snowfields, recruit some new members, be known for something (what is melbourne's culture anyway?) and stop whingeing. your financial position is all your own doing.

Our gameplan.
Didak, Cloke, Fraser, Medhurst and Thomas not playing.
But more importantly, L.Brown, Corrie, Toovey, Cook and Cox playing.

We didn't lose because of injuries, we would have been more competitive. But our gameplan is painful to watch and it's not helped by the fact we had no forwardline.

Collingwood will be getting rid of Eddie and Mick soon, how times change.

I know you're frustrated by the loss today, calm down. It's not my fault all of Collingwood's best players are all 180 cm tall. This thread is about Collingwood, I brought up Melbourne simply because the Pies remind me of an equally diabolical Dees unit with similar coaching difficulties. I am well educated on Melbourne's off field problems.

I will not comment on how good or bad our list is until half through next year and see what Collingwood's new coach will do! IMO it will either be Buck's or Chocco Williams! either one I will be happy with!

But for the rest of the year Collingwood should plan to tank play the youg kids except for Presti, Lockyer, Davis, Didak and Medhurst (all the rest should be 23 years and younger) and should finnish bottom four!

WE are lucky we can do that with the amount of money and fans we have at our disposal.

eddie won't go, no-one their to take his place and i sure as **** wouldn't want gary pert holding the reins.
i think that this is now mick's last year, he will see out the season and it will be bloodless. nathan buckley will coach collingwood next year. BOOKMARK IT.

Main reason...coach. Gameplan laughable.

Second reason....division in the playing group. Should have off loaded Dids and Heater last year, now we pay. Club needs tro be cleaned out, starting from the top with MM, then delist trade the main core of duds, and recruit a ruckman which MM has never done in his 10 years.

Stop playing Leroy and Corrie...period.

Simply have too many injuries to their best and most creative players. Medhurst at the Pies has been a revelation as he has changed from the soft front-running dud he was at Freo to a small forward who would be almost Steve Johnson-like with this goal-sense and creativity. Didak (not sure what his injury is) but his absence is keenly missed, on song he is a gun. Rocca is a shadow of the player he was 2-3 years ago, and he was out too.

Cloke is out, but some observers are suggesting that the broken cheekbone/facial injury suffered in the assault over summer has knocked his confidence around big time. I think also he suffered a facial injury a couple of years ago as well? He may well be a bit subconsciously 'timid' in going as hard as he did in 2007 especially. Also, the retirement of Scott Burns also robbed the Pies of a solid ball-getting midfielder who would always be a quality performer. They are quite a young side, and simply haven't got the depth to cover these players. Take out Fraser too, their best ruckman, and it's no surprise they are struggling. They may be a little like Geelong's side circa 2004 in that loss to Carlton, they had no player who had 100 games at that stage.

Bring back the quality forwards and they will be much more competitive.

Mind you, for the Roo and Dee fans on this thread, Geelong had out Ablett, Chapman, Ottens plus Hunt, and we lost Milburn at 1/4 time. Those opening three names will take a lot of equalling for any other side to cover!!;)
