Another casting that they've just absolutely nailed imo.

Lan was described as having an unlined face, was he not? Yeah, he's supposed to have grey hair and it's supposed to be longer, but that can be done in make up. As far as the physical face structure and his build, this dude is tall and shredded, I think this is a great casting.
Plus I think they went a little younger than expected because of Lan’s relationship with 26 year old Nynaeve (which I love by the way, by far my favourite romantic relationship in this series).

While 14 years is still a huge age gap it’s not quite as creepy as 19-20 years.

Glad I found this thread. Really look forward to seeing how this goes.

Loved the Books ( mainly from the 2rd or so book until about the 9th) Wasn't a fan of the Sanderson endings though. I did get lost with the over the top character amount that eventuates.

Look forward to seeing this on TV.

The Next GoT ? The story is that good, if they do this right.

I hope it doesn't turn into a show adaptain like 'Terry Goodkinds' 'Sword of Truth (The Seeker) - I liked that show, but was to lame to do the books justice.

A few people online concerned that Thom could go the way of Tom Bombadil in the LOTR films.

I wonder what they'll do with the Trollocs? They are such a big part of the story especially early on.

Will they be able to use CGI and keep them 10 feet tall, can they keep the variation if they do. Whatever their budget is I'm guessing it's not even close to the ballpark of Game of Thrones.

Shrink them to man size and rely more on practical effects.

The third option would be more or less dumping them and incorporating their characteristics into their armour and costumes.

Three options and listed in order of preference, would love the first and hate the last.

If they shrink Loial I riot.

Ah I wish I knew how to post pictures from Instagram or twitter on here.

Wotonprime, Josha stradowski and rafe judkins have posted a picture of the main cast, together, on twitter and Instagram.

Rosamund Pike despite being 5’10 actually looks really short when standing next to Josha Stradowski, Marcus Rutherford and Daniel Henney. :D

The budget will be interesting. Apparently Amazon aren't concerned with throwing significant amounts of cash into their original series. It looks like they're going for quality, not quantity. And the special effects in The Boys were pretty good, so I'll be interested to see how they deal with the One Power.

On another note, for the cynics, that photo of the primary cast could be seen as a confirmation that they've binned Thom.

I hope they haven’t binned him.

I think I’ll get over it if they do and I understand not every character is going to make the television series but Thom is like a father figure to Mat and Rand in particular as well as Elayne. I’ll be sad if he’s not in it.

Right now I’m choosing to believe they just haven’t gotten around to casting him yet, at least until we get confirmation of him being cut.

Yeah CGI is improving so much (in quality and cost effectiveness) that I think they'll be able to do a decent job with most of the one power skills but my concern is the creatures. Where as Game of Thrones is largely medieval with three dragons, WoT has a lot more varied races and creatures. Like I said with the trollocs I'll be curious to see if they go all out or tone them down, and how they manage to do that.

The photo is great, really liking the casting and if they are given a decent script this could have half a chance.

Why the worry about binning Thom? He was still a side character and I wouldnt have expected him to be announced yet seeing as its really only been the core players so far.

Peter Jackson did a good job when it came to filming the hobbits, for the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies (possibly the only positive thing to be said about the latter). It's almost 20 years since the LotR movies were filmed.

If Jackson can make humans look like halflings, then I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to expect Trollocs to look 10' tall 20 years down the line.

Will the Wheel of Time have $US 180 million budget (even without 20 years of inflation)?

But yeah it just seems like now is a good time to be making these series, the CGI is getting to a level to support the projects if there is even a reasonable level of investment. King Shark and Gorilla Grodd on the Flash were decent examples, done really well considering what it was done for. Give me a heap of trollocs like that and my suspension of disbelief will do the rest :thumbsu:.

And I don't want to sound down on the project, if anything all the recent news is a lot more positive than I would have expected, I'm curious rather than worried at this point.

I'm not sure what the budget is for the show, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was close to $10M per episode. That probably buys you a similar level of CGI to what LotR achieved for $180M 20 years ago.

All I know with Amazon is that the figure being rumoured for their LoTR adaption is close to 1 billion, (for the whole thing of course, including the rights) if Wheel of Time has even a fraction of that we’ll be in a good place.
