This guy deserved so much more out of his career.

Even now, at whatever he is, we miss him so much in that side. Calm, composed, fearless and a damn good user of the ball. The fact he has missed so many games through injury is truly tragic, as he no doubt would have ended up with 200+

The hits on Goodes, Ball and Hird were all memorable but, ala McDonald in a lot of ways, he has never and continues to not get the credit he deserves.

I really hope can get his body right and have a crack at another season and finish his career off on a relative (injury-free) high.

His impact on the younger aboriginal boys can also not be forgotten, Davey in particular is never anything less than glowing about the impact Matty had on him.

wheels is an absolute gun for us... we miss him so bad and are probably a 3-4 goal better side with him in... hopefully him and belly can get back very soon and give us some calm heads in the back 50...

Whelan's definately underrated. He's been a stalwart and not just that, also a highly skilled player with a terrific tackle. We definately miss him. Been my favourite player now for years, unfortunately we haven't seen much of him for a while which is a real shame.

Hope he comes back fit and firing!
