Mine started probably when i was 10 or 11. Magic the Gathering and Necromunda is where it all started out pretty much.

Just started to get back into board games in the past few years, bought a heap and try play as regularly as possible. In the past few months started Necromunda up again as well with a couple of mates, hard to find people to play against now though, but still as fun as ever!
Do you use the Yakromunda Community edition ruleset? I have a download and it looks pretty good. GW have removed all the Specialist Games stuff from their website, it truly is the end of an era.

No, we're just back into it after a LONG time off so we're still using the original rule book at the moment.

I've downloaded the community rules and had a bit of a read and they're pretty good. Introduced lots of nice things (plus a few i dislike also).

Been on a bit of a miniature buying spree recently, can still get a few bargains if you look hard enough.

You and me both! Mine aren't even restricted to a single system, aside from working on a couple full armies I've been grabbing starter boxes and 2 player starter kits for various games that look interesting, or have some interesting to paint minis.

I'd always wanted a 40k army and finally had the means and returned interest to do it, so got started... and suddenly discovered a whole world of different minis (though i already knew about Warmahordes and Infinity). I'm getting pretty big into Mantic stuff lately though, even with buying all my 40k stuff from GW China all the Mantic gear is cheaper, just as nice to own and really nicer to use.

Yeah, in amongst the moaning about "Wheaton sucks", "Tabletop sucks because <personal favourite elitist video/pod> does <thing> way better" and "It doesn't cost that much money to make a youtube show, this is a rip off" a lot of people were giving it money anyway. Grogs will be grogs.
LOL ok ok so im a Rahdo fan, think his kickstarter got around 16k. Its not the flash bang of Tabletop but awesome for getting an idea on how games play to see if they float your boat.

Happy to see S3 of tabletop will be a go too.

As the mexican girl says " why cant we have both"

Nothing wrong with plenty of options, I just found the tabletop hipster reactions to his show because it gets the rules wrong, or is more about the celebs than the games, or plays the wrong games, or doesn't review them properly, or isn't as funny as SUASD to be pretty funny.

As far as im concerned any info on games is awesome, i hate spending $50-$100 blind and hoping a game is worth it.

Good research = money well spent :)

Mantic have some awesome stuff!

My mate got in on the Dreadball Extreme kickstarter, so i'm getting a few teams in that to have a play with when it finally arrives in about 9 months or so! They have some great games that are *quite* similar to the old GW specialist games. At least someone is doing it!

Never been a 40K fan, too much stuff to buy to play!

Yeah I got in on Dreadball Xtreme as well, plus I backed Mars Attacks!, and I already have half of my Deadzone backer rewards, which is great fun to play. I've also bought the Dreadball starter, and through their random xmas sales boxes have a smattering of Kings of War minis.

They have another Kings of War kickstarter with the Nature army this year that I'm looking forward to, a new version of Dwarf King's Hold, possibly a small expansion to Deadzone, and then next year the massive Warpath kickstarter will happen. Warpath is like 40k, except rules you can understand, and a lot of minis for about 1/3 the price, plus they have Space Dwarfs :D

Mantic isn't perfect, but they're making really cool and fun stuff, selling it affordably, and engaging with their community :thumbsu:

These are the first two guys from Deadzone I've painted

Nah I'm terrible, my hands shake like a sober alcoholic, it's pretty easy to paint that well or better after a few practice goes at it (and with the right paints and brushes). Thanks though!

I'm enjoying getting better as I paint these guys though, I have a Marauder Hulk nearly done now

Hi guys,
I first got into gaming as a kid in the 70s/80s. My Dad played a lot of naval board and miniature war games (War at Sea, Victory in the Pacific, Harpoon etc), and as a household we played a lot of family board games.

I really started getting into historical war gaming with a few mates in the mid 80s, a lot of the old Avalon Hill numbers, and that love has continued to now. It is nice to now share the great past time with my own family. :thumbsu:

Joining in on the GW beginnings, played Necromunda, Mordheim, Blood Bowl and Gorkamorka. Think it was about year 7 or so we came across them. Branched into Risk as a straight up board game which I still love. Have just ordered Dreadball Extreme and have been playing a bit of Dominion lately.

Just starting to get back into it all now, think I'm going to go and buy Ticket to Ride in the next couple of days.

Started with card games and Risk for me, ended up with Warhammer, MTG, and various board games ala Catan and still going strong.

All about proper Warhammer though, none of that 40K bs.

Those were a couple of fancy ones that I really enjoyed.

Started out with D&D and moved onto Harn. Hated D&D 3rd edition and everything that Wizards did to the game.

Had a big D&D group when I was 16. About 5 hours every Sunday. Then moved onto playing Harn on Friday nights.

The usual board games were Axis and Allies, Robo Rally and the evergreen Talisman (gotta have those expansions).

Of course there was Magic cards somewhere in there but I also played Star Trek CCG.

I was never big into RPG's when i was younger (or now for that matter) but i remember getting dragged into playing quite a bit of this by a group of friends back in the day.

Was real fun to play, and to be honest if the opportunity came up to have another crack at it now i'd probably be up for it, but i don't have the patience or know how to set up and run one of these. The other one we played a small amount of (and i happen to still have somewhere) was:

Another super fun, easy and not too serious RPG.

Just bought a few new Magic the Gathering cards for the first time since about 1998. So many new skills and rules, going to take a bit to learn it all i think!

Been playing board games on and off for most of my life, I can't even remember not playing some sort of game...

Had a massive GW collection, played most of their games and still have boxes in storage filled with enough lead figures I'm sure they're poisoning the environment in some way. Still play Blood Bowl every now and again. Have played loads of Risk, Catan and other Euro games.

Mainly play games with the kids now, Mouse Trap, Killer Bunnies and Legendary (Marvel Co-op Deck Building game). They're keen on buying Zombicide so I'll see how it goes.

Only just noticed this Sub Forum. Might be another one Chief can kick me out of :).

*For those interested.

My dark little secret goes as such. I didn't really play Dn'D or any other variant in high school. Knew a few guys who did, only because I was always into Comic Books and Drawing so I would search out the (for lack of a better term) Geeks every so often to talk comic books, movies etc. Looking back; I was a Geek in denial, so Teenage years was mostly sport (football & cricket being the big two), playing in shitty Metal bands, booze and on the odd occasion when I didn't feel like getting completely drunk, Girls.

However after High School I got really crook and had to leave the Illustration Course I was doing and move back in to the Old Duck's house as I was bed ridden. Low and behold the only guys out of all my supposed "Mates" to come over for a regular visit was the Comic Book Gang, who would simply come over to hang out, give me stuff to read, watch movies etc. One day they said we should play some RPG, I went fu** that. Got talked into it and as much as I didn't want to admit it, it was a heap of fun. Became a regular RPG gamer and Warhammer, Warhammer 40k (and what was the Gang one that was an off shoot of Warhammer 40k?) for a few years after that. My Misses thought I had gone mad.

Haven't played in Donkeys now, think I am past my used by date on that sort of stuff.

Shouldn't be so dismissive. If you enjoyed it all once, you would still enjoy it now.

No doubt, just think I'm a bit old these days. I can still remember the weird old bloke at the model store. I don't want to be him. :)
