When Dustin comes back will we see a whole new level of 'don't argue'?

Sorry to make another Martin thread but I have to admit he frustrated me a little this season

I might be expecting too much out of him but based on last years games and then his huge performances in our pre-season games I really thought he would've had a better season so far.

I can't put my finger on it but watching replays from this year compared to last year + 2012 pre-season he just doesn't look as dominant and his kicking consistency hasn't been flash.

What are your thoughts on this? Is he on par with your expectations this season? Reckon he'll come back with a bang and impregnate the entire opposition just by staring at them?

I think all the talk got to his head a little this season. He's young. I can see some big games coming up from him for the rest of this season

Agree his 2012 has been dissapointing (relative to the expectations coming in). 2011 was a far better year for him, I'd go as far to say so was 2010.

Not sure if it's attitude/work rate related, or something physically bothering him, but he just hasn't impacted games the way he was in previous years. Still confident he'l be an absolute gun and an elite midfielder, but needs to work a bit harder if he wants to get there. Hopefully this little suspension gives him the kick he needs to get his head straight and he comes back refreshed. I think we might see the Martin we all want when he returns.

In his own words, he was born to play AFL! :thumbsu:
Really? His kicking for goal has been atrocious. Prior to the season starting he was all hyped about smashing taggers assigned to Cotchin. I don't recall Martin putting on too many bone crunching blocks this year. He's looked lost for the most part.

Extremely disappointing production. Initially I thought his two week suspension was too tough a penalty by the club in light of what St Kilda gave Jack Steven. Now I'm not so sure.

Yep agree with that, his defensive game needs a huge improvement and Dimma has been trying to knock it into him. needs more tackle and 1%rs

Agree also, I still think 2 weeks is fair, forget what they're doing at sh*t kilda I say, taking some other blokes pills while on the gas and missing training during the week just isn't on.

I know they're all individuals, but Dustin should maybe stop and think 'Would Chris Newman/Trent Cotchin/Brett Deledio be out on the piss right now? or would he have arranged to celebrate his birthday another time and gone to bed for the night?' or something like that anyway..i dunno

I know it reeks of the Ken Judge story where he harassed Ben Cousins every day saying 'Crawfy would never do that!' but he just needs to think and prioritise.

No hating on Dustin here, I just want to see him do his best at the thing he loves most

Improvement isn't necessarily a linear line.
you're going to have to elaborate

do you mean he might be concentrating on other parts of his game in order to improve so right now he appears to have stalled when he hasn't?

Improvement may be step wise rather than a straight line.

For me he's lacked intensity this year, maybe a case of believing his own hype and expecting things would come easily.

Hopefully he comes out to prove himself against North.

Hu? Due to an enormous amount of reasons improvement doesn't necessarily continue steadily and perfectly with time. Sometimes there are set backs, sometimes development stalls for periods and sometimes improvement can happen quite rapidly.

It is not that hard to work out surely?

lol

When Dustin Martin comes back not only will he fend off Firito by a few metres in our forward pocket but will fend him off all the way to North's forward line. Once the ball is tapped from Maric/Derickx's hand you won't see anything, just a ball kicked into the forward 50 by Dustin Martin. Once Harvey gets the ball Martin will put his head down and come charging his way to him and rip the ball out of his hands.
You won't just see Martin in the midfield and in the forward line but you'll also see him down back in a one on one with Drew Petrie, guess who's going to win that battle? Petrie will be too scared to even look at the ball.
Forget about the Grand Final, the game against North will be the game of the year.

My predictions for Martin will be 40+ disposals, 5 goals, 8 tackles, 10%ers (7 chase downs, 3 spoils), 4 goal assists, 10 clearances, 10 hitouts, 9 marks. He'll also get 10 frees because when he's at the bottom of the pack and the umpires see him there with the ball they'll be too scared to call holding the ball so they give him the free for high contact.

I'm just going to describe a bit of play create by Dustin Martin. The ball is bounced in the middle of the ground after Dustin Martin kicks his 4th goal and it's only half way through the 2nd quarter. Martin is standing behind Maric with some lame North tagger, but right now their tagger is useless because Martin already has 23 disposals and is kicking at 80% efficiency. Now, Maric wins the tap against Majak Daw and the tap is not to Dusty's advantage but him being Dusty he goes full steam ahead and in the blink of an eye the ball drops into his hands somehow. Brent Harvey and the gang are now on his tail as he gets to the 50m line, but it's all to late, the devil himself couldn't stop this beast. Inside Dustin Martin's brain everything is going in slow motion as he sizes up his options to spot an open player, but nobody is leading and Riewoldt is telling him to kick for goal. So after a step he unleashes a booming kick.

The tiger army gets up like a mexican wave as the footy goes through the middle.

In all seriousness i'm sure he'll have a great game. Martin FEVER!!!!!

it was so easy to work out that i figured out about 5 different things he could be referring to because he didn't specify

its all good typing out clever sounding one liners, but at least go into detail

ok..that's why i asked him to elaborate. what reasons? there's always something behind it that's why i asked if he thought maybe he was concentrating more on different aspects of his game

Think other teams figure him out a bit too. Still needs to build that tank. When he gets to the point he can go go go all day long look out. He's had a lot of good starts and quiet finishes. Same with most young footballers, just about building that tank

Such a stupid post. He would kick from the centre square. :p

Well lets be honest, his 'poor' form is still pretty bloody good. This suspension will rattle the cage and see him grab a couple by the scruff imo.
His poor form is crap. He goes through games unsighted all the time with absolutely no influence. If anything his form has gone backwards this year.

That's right. About time our fanbase stopped blowing smoke up his arse. No wonder he's acting like a brat off the field. Time to earn his spot.
