Opinion When Hill has 10 possessions and Ratten says “We don’t drop Hill...” What message does that send?

This could be combined with the other thread about Hill.

But a serious question.....

Say we drop him. Who replaces him? Luke Dunstan? We have no depth right now. Who comes in for Zak Jones if we drop him. What about Billings. We're lacklustre across the board right now. Unless we are now supposed to play the kids and tank completely?

Ludicrous thread.
no..... You saints fans had your way on bashing Ross Lyon and Zac Dawson when they were both at Freo. LoL

They have over 2m in their cap going to Hill/Hannerbery/Jones. Staggering.
Jones wouldn’t be on a crazy amount and he came 6th in our B&F last year (despite missing 3 games), and was 10th in the AFLCA coaches votes 12 rounds in (ahead of Dusty, Bont and Danger, amongst others), and still equal-12th (with Dusty) after R15 (so with just 3 rounds to go), despite having missed at least one and possibly two games. Teams then put a lot of work into him late in the season.

He’s been inconsistent this year, but that’s probably got a lot to do with the fact he’s done 5 or 6 hammies in the last two years and came into the season very underdone.

Was a huge part of the reason we beat West Coast a few weeks ago (in the 2nd half, when we blew them away, he had 17 disposals (@95% DE!, 10 contested), 8 clearances and 5 inside-50’s).

Then today he had 37 (@78% DE), 16 contested, 13 score involvements, 500m-gained, 7 clearances, 6 tackles, 6 inside-50’s and 2 goals.

For what we gave up for him (a pick in the 30’s and swap of later picks) we wouldn’t hesitate to do that deal again.

When he’s on, we win, it’s been pretty much as simple as that.

Last week after Brad Hill had 10 possessions after previous poor performances, Ratten when asked if he should be dropped, clearly at stated ..” we don’t drop hill..”. What message does that send to the playing group, supporters, sponsors etc. Obviously 10 possessions for s $800k player is not acceptable and needs to be addressed, not ridiculed through such a statement.

When going gets tough its, “All players are on Notice”. However at St Kilda it’s all players on notice unless your on $800k per year.

How is Ratten going to ‘own’ his players in threatening being dropped when he has made this statement about the ‘untouchable’ Hill.

If Hill is Rattens protected species then he will also be the catalyst of the demise of St Kilda and will cause his 2nd sacking as a senior coach.

Seems like Ratten made the correct call after all.

Thank Christ we were smart enough to get Jones - 3 Brownlow votes yesterday.

Only 18 more months of Hannerbery’s contract thankfully - what a disaster that has been.

Zak played well and he’s young enough to easily make his move worth it. Understand a lot of saints fans getting defensive but it’s fair to say so far Hannerbery and Hills moves have been failures so far, Hill hopefully for st kildas sake turns it around and the Hannerbery deal was just bizarre.

$1.5 in salary cap costs off the books soon with Roberton, Hanners and Dunstan departing and will secure the likes of King, Clark, Bytel and Coffield long-term.

Average age of the Saints squad is going to drop dramatically end of this year with Geary, Frawley, McKernan, Carlisle and Hunter all likely departing. We need some experienced heads like Hill around.

Fremantle still love Hill and St Kilda fans hate Lyon and Dawson.

That's the message.

St Kilda fans are just a bunch of hateful, twisted and spiteful trolls who eats their own.

Hill very good at the Hawks, excellent at Freo and St Kilda don't give him the ball.

Looked far better off half back yesterday, and has the tank to push up to the wing anyway. I know the Saints were virtually playing witches hats but it allowed Hill to get to work a bit more.

You are like the 9 year old sitting on the bench agitated to be out on the ground and get all excited when opportunity comes. . Where were you last week when Hill had another shocking game, didn’t see any posts then saying a Ratten was correct eh? well done a Einstein, if he keeps playing him of course he is going to eventually play well against very weak Hawthorn.
reminds me when Lonnie was going crap for a few weeks, Richo finally dropped him to Sandy the week they played Frankston which was coach by a St Kilda assistant coach at the time. Message to Frankston coach was not to tag and let him run free. Got 40 possessions and back the following week. Smart football people see right through that one and the Hill scenario which you obviously are not.

I've made criticisms in the other thread about Brad Hill, the one you decided to ignore before making another thread about the same topic.

Not sure why you attempt to belittle me for saying basically what you agree with - if we had someone to replace him he would have been dropped. You're just here to troll, so I'm done here.

Good, on your way! Don’t sit on the fence waiting for something to happen then try look like a star. As stated, you didn’t say anything the week before when he went bad, just waiting to make a hero of yourself. Bye bye.

As a matter of interest, has lethlean done anything good for st Kilda, it was his idea to get hannebury, and pay him so much

Well we did make the finals last year, brought in a bunch of good players and have smashed our membership record this year.

Not sure how much of that is directly attributable to him, but on balance it appears to be overwhelmingly positive.

“They should’ve dropped him (Bradley Hill) and made a statement. If you don’t win your own ball and execute your skills and don’t play how you need to play, you’re out of the team and we reward someone else."

Great to see the a legend of the club agreeing with the OP.
