When is a replica guernsey not actually a replica?

I bought the 2006 'Replica Home Guernsey' online from Crowmania and the guernsey they sent out, while official AFL merchandise, adidas and with the modern Camry logo on it (so it's obviously not one of last year's left over Russell Athletic versions) - doesn't have the blue striping down the sides which curves at the front like our actual home guernsey does.

Trifling I know, but not actually a 'replica' is it.

Anyone else noticed this? Or have you all gone for the snazzy away/heritage option. ;)

Not really trifling DT - legitimately worthy of a minimum of a whinge. :thumbsu:

Like you say - it's not a replica at all.

Yeah, unless I've actually been sent next year's and they're doing away with the blue 'piping' (for want of a better term) and going back to the traditional all hoops design?

Why would they go to the trouble of producing one guernsey for the players and another to sell in the shop otherwise?

EDIT: Scratch that idea -

Original gripe still stands :p

Yeah it sucks like that , but You can get actually replicas, I saw them at the AFL store in town with the blue stripes down the side...for 150 smackeroos. I bought one at rebel sport the other day for 70 bucks, but it didnt have the stripes...these look better anyway IMO. Dont like our away guernsey a hell of a lot, so I'l just settle for the clash and home guernsey this year :)

OK there are two versions of this years home and away tops for sale. The cheaper option that DT has obviously got is the easier one to find. If you want the one that looks EXACTLY like the playing one you need to cough up 150 bucks and pretty much need to special order it in from the Crowmania store.

Ah, that makes sense then.

Shame there was no mention of this more expensive guernsey on the website though - and to call the cheaper one "replica" is clearly bollocks.

Cheers all.

the only place i have seen "official" guernseys is rebel sport. like raikkinen said they are 150.

the $150 ones have the extra piece of material either side to the standard 2 piece gurnseys that we've been wearing for upteen years. having 2 extra pieces of stretchy material adds $70... somehow.

DT: Why would they go to the trouble of producing one guernsey for the players and another to sell in the shop otherwise?

Ans: as i described above its cheaper to mass produce 2 piece guernseys that can be sold at a more appealing price.

I think all clubs have a cheaper replica guernsey and also an official on-field version. Collingwoods is the same as the Crows with the extra material down the side. The cheap Port guernsey doesn't have the same neck line, the Nike emblem is printed onto the teal on the front of the guernsey and it doesn't have the black material that runs down the side. I suppose the more basic the guernsey, the cheaper it is to make!

Replicas are the cheap ones.
Authentic are the real ones, that the players wear. I got myself an away one for $150 at Crowmania, I enjoy them having no trim around the arms :D

DT it's interesting you should raise this.

My 8 year old wants a long sleeve home jumper (and I've been looking since March) - but cannot find one with the current home design - ie the curvy bits.

If it's a home jumper - but hasn't got the curvy bits....then it ain't a 2006 jumper IMO.

Granted, but the term "replica guernsey" is taken to mean that it is a carbon copy of the onfield guernsey - just as when I've bought replica shirts direct from Newcastle United in the past (also adidas). When they've finally come from England they're the real deal, ie. not without a stripe or two less.

I've since learned that it obviously isn't, therefore the term "replica" is false.

Also, there is no mention of "authentic" guernsey on the Crowmania website, therefore no distinction is even made.

Poor form I thought.

Yeah I don't know what the go is. Perhaps ring Crowmania direct for info?

The website is useless.

you will not find a junior home guernsey with the extra bits down the side. you are wasting your time looking for one!

True, but the point that makes it really stupid is that Adidas only took over the jumpers this season.

You could understand if they were pre 2006 jumpers, but Adidas have only started this year so there is no excuse for them. Thats really poor IMO.

I wont buy one while they arent what the players are wearing on the field.
