To even remember who handed over the bloody Trophy:drunk:
the 2009 and 2010 grandfinals i was honestly so on edge i couldnt eat or drink at all during the game in 2010 i didnt even go to the bathroom (partly because the tickets i blew $3k on were 3 rows from the very top of the MCG so standing up was a bit like jumping out of a plane)...

No one involved at another club otherwise Harvey would get the nod.

Happy with Spud or someone from that era, if flag 10+ years from now then it's Roo for mine.

so you say no to harvey cause he was an assistant at Collingwood but are happy for the former Richmond coach Frawley to do it ???
i dont get the angst to people like Harves who played their whole carreer at the club but in retirment took up coaching roles at other clubs .. thats not disloyalty thats taking the job thats available to you

Sounds like the club was established in 2000 judging by some of the suggestions.
A lot of players took pennies on the dollar to keep the club afloat. Many of them were heroes from 66.
Roo was amply rewarded for his services.
Indeed,

I also agree it has to be a one club player (Sorry to Plugger, Stewart or Ditterich).

Doc or Barks would have been the fairy tale but sadly no. Keith Miller would have been my personal pick by mainly coz I love the guy (50 Saints games, Vic rep, WW2 pilot, 55 tests for Australia with the Invincibles and an affair with a Princess)

So I guess that leaves us with Cowboy, Barry Breen or Griffiths as like the logical candidates (assuming Verdun isn't up to it). Maybe leave it up to the 66 boys to organise, but while they are still around it has to be one of them.

Far too soon for Spud, Harves, Rooey or Lenny. The can each have a go when we go back to back to back to back in 2047, 48, 49 & 50

Fair call and I wouldn't be overly against it but it wouldn't be my preference either

Educate us youngsters more about Keith Miller? Sounds like he would be a cult figure!

No problem with Harves whatsoever, just got to be a one club player. Isn't that our motto is all about?
(Although, I do feel for Dal, because it wasn't really his decision to leave.)

you can add BJ to that then ... he didnt want to leave it was the club who felt that the reward of him leaving was bettter than the cost of keeping him ...

Mate his bio is a great read. Never saw him live sadly but was bought up on tales of his exploits by my grandpa (who played with Miller and turned me into a Saint from birth).

Played 50 games for the Saints, broken up by his time in the war. Put it this way, he played only 3 years of VFL and was good enough to get picked in the Victorian State side. First of the attacking defenders who could swing forward apparently (kicked 8 in a game when he was named in defence). Started playing footy, went off and flew planes over Germany then came back and played another year with the Saints.

Then decided to turn his hand to cricket. Hit the ball out of the ground in his first Ashes test.

Was one of the two superstars in the Australian Invincibles. Bradman was one, Miller the other. Best all-rounder Australia has ever had (bat at 5 and opened the bowling – the way those talented kids do in under 14s, but for Australia).

Clashed badly with Bradman (who had him dropped from Australia after he kept bowling bouncers at him in a State game – the RedSox then offered him a spot but he stuck with cricket). Bradman was really straight laced and didn’t drink. Miller was the opposite. Would go to bed on curfew, then get up, get dressed, say goodbye to Bradman and go out on the drink. Would turn up to play still half cut (and performed), loved the horses, apparently had an affair with Princess Margaret … you get the idea.

Bradman was also ruthless. Used to rack up huge scores against inferior teams (note his ridiculous average). Miller was the opposite. In a game against some County team we were about 2 for three hundred and plenty. Miller came in, let himself be bowled first ball and then went off and got on the punt.

Great cricket brain but was overlooked for the Australian captaincy for many of the same reasons Warne was overlooked for Clarke. Made some loose decisions but the war screwed with him a bit (kinda understandable)

Responsible for one of my all-time favourite sayings:
“Pressure, mate. In cricket? You’ve got to be kidding. Pressure is turning around and seeing a Messerschmitt flying up your arse”

Who knows how good a footballer he could have been if not for the war (and him deciding to become one of Australia’s greatest cricketers instead). Not sure cult figure even does it justice. Think some Warney, Sam Fisher, alpha male war pilot hybrid

When we win I will unashamedly cry my eyes out like a little girl and blow snot bubbles out my nose and slobber all over the nearest Saints fan.
Hope I'm there to share it with some of you, not many Sainters out my way.
