21st July 2001 is when I made first contact. I was bored one day, and decided to look on the net for quality AFL/Carlton discussion. Found BigFooty!

When I was a newbie, I went to the chatroom. I still remember QT stating that I'll get addicted to this place, and I said I won't. He got the best of me... 8^P

I also remember Nolsey accusing me of being Rohan (of all people) in the chatroom when I was there the first time. TigerTank thought I was Karl (yet again, of all people). It was a pretty funny start actually... the rest is history.

oct 2000...

being in sydney...

lacked decent AFL news coverage on tv...
online it was just afl.com.au...

then found this site, which made my day...

I signed up here under a different name originally probably 8 months or so before this current user name. I heard about it in one of the football newsgroups. I rarely posted anything at the time. When I started up thepowerfromport.com I decided to change my user name to that. So I guess I've been around for close to 2 years. Sure has grown from back then.

Signed up on February 15 of this year-- the night before my wedding to Jen. It was after 11 that night, and I couldn't sleep. So those who want to whinge about the drivel they think I post here, yes, you can blame it on the insomnia caused by my excitement. ;)

Actually, after I heard about this site on another message board, I was also looking forward to the Wizard Cup game on Feb. 16 that eventually saw Geelong beating Richmond-- and I wanted to talk about the game's leadup on that night before. Discovered this place as a wonderful place to talk footy... after all, I was up til 3 a.m. on the site that first night.

And hence, my obsession has been fueled, and no regrets, and no turning back, either.

Cheers,
William

When: July 2002
Why: I read a post by Raboyle in the Central District web site regarding perceptions of our supporters, during I think a time an assault occurred in norwood and everyone assumed who was involved. His line was: "Come and see what people are saying about us. Not good."
Here I am still. Wracking up the posts.

I had only started following the sport closely. I found BomberTalk first, but it rarely worked, and at that time the company seemed to consist mostly of Matthew Lloyd groupies.

I cannot remember how I found this the first time. When I signed up, I merely wanted to lurk at first. As an American I wasn't sure how much I would be able to contribute, but here and there I started adding to whatever I felt I could without looking like too much of a poser. For a long time I kept the fact I was American a secret and didn't reveal it until I was a regular poster. I wanted to surprise people with that revelation and look like somebody who had done his homework before claiming to be any kind of fan.

I knew the fact that I picked Essendon as my club a year before winning a premiership would have looked suspicious to a lot of people so I felt like I had to go out of my way to prove I wasn't a bandwagoner. (I picked a club my eventual wife and family had supported for years. I just got lucky with the success thing.)

It has been a good education for someone relatively new to the game. It has given me the chance to get out and actually play the sport in a competitive context, and make a few social connections in the process. That's important for a relatively shy guy immigrating from the other side of the world.

Around this time last year I became a regular here - after the site was mentioned on a Yahoo club (before Yahoo changed them into Groups which pretty much killed them - and thanks to BomberGal for the mention). I registered about a week after the World Cup qualifyer, lurked silently for a few weeks and have inflicted 2 1/2 gorillas worth of fluff on you since then.
I'd actually been here before that, for a brief fleeting moment that until recently I had no memory of - until I discovered that I'd actually registered a user name with the grand total of 1 post.

I spend rather too much time here these days. You can count me as a BigFooty-holic.:)

I found this place about 2 months ago...

Decided Carlton didn't have enough representation, so kept coming back. Now I quite like the place, there being no posters (other than the mods) that I don't like. I even don't mind Suzi.
