I'm ready for a classic Victoira vs South Australia game at a sold out MCG. For the rest of you - yes even the "allies" you could possibly play as the curtain raiser. Hmmmmm, I think I'm onto something. Why not let W.A. and the Allies go at it from 4.30 and then at about 8 the main event. The AFL could charge an arm and a leg then serve cold pies, but the punters will love it.

As much as I loved SOO the fact is the players don't care enough about it, especially the Allies...I couldn't believe Carey even bothered to write an article about it this week, considering the number of times he had 'general soreness' when he was due to play for them.

I think International Rules is the way to go, because we get to see all of the best from Australia on the park at once. And the care factor is much higher. Many players rate winning the series in Ireland as one of the highlights of their careers. I went 2 years ago and it was a fantastic atmosphere, I'll definitely go again this year. Representing your country, apart from winning the flag you can't get a bigger buzz than that.

the AFL announced today the format of the draw will be similar for the next 5 years under the TV agreement, with one game Friday night, 2 saturday arvo, 2 sat night and 3 sunday with a few exceptions.

They also announced the split round was to continue mid-season. Guess that spells an end to SOO for 5 years at least.

Good riddance to State-of-Origin. Complete waste of time and effort. The only good thing about it was that it gave us barrackers a week off from going to the footy ... but we get that anyway with the split round.

What a total anachronism. A carry over from colonial days. It was about as relevant as the British Empire. Bloody hell. Australia became a nation in 1901, so they say. And yet we've still got people saying, "Oh, gee. I'd love to see a match between S.A. and Victoria." I suggest you get yourself a time machine and go back 100 years. Grow yourself a nice long handlebar moustache and give three rousing cheers for Queen Victoria and Mother England.

If they ever revive State-of-Origin, maybe the players could wear those long knickerbockers and hose. The Victorians could wear blue caps and the South Australains could wear red caps. And instead of umpires, they could have the captains award the free kicks. First team to score two goals wins. No limit on the number of players in each team. Behinds, of course, are not counted.
