Although the last-ditch effort was ultimately unsuccessful, CEO Cain Liddle was left in no doubt that several important players would have preferred the board keep Teague for 2022.

We now find out Sayers was chatting to Ross Lyon and hosting him at his house from mid-year. Do Carlton fans still want to talk about the integrity of the review and waiting for its findings before making any decisions.

What a great way to start your presidency …. canvass others for the coaching job 10-weeks before the review that judged the coach was handed down and before finals were out of the question.

I’ll agree that there are certain media types who often make calls before they have enough information, but I wouldn’t say they make random pot shots as they’re right more than they aren’t.

And is, they said he’d get sacked on Monday but he got sacked on Thursday therefore their information was false really the hill to die on?

Well the fact he wasn't sacked until ~6pm Wednesday, sorta yes, indicates their mail was wrong or worse, false.

Anyways my point is there were no leaks. Invited others to share said leaks, nada, nothing yet.

Don't blame Carlton?

Teague knew he was gone. His comments to the media said as much. Carlton butchered it. They've clearly gone after Ross Lyon for months - reports yesterday confirm as much.

Ofcourse we butchered the process. That does not mean we can’t act in our best interests if we felt the review was moving that way. Teague and Richmond certainly didn’t give a damn.

It would’ve been negligent to wait until a day after sacking Teague (today!!) to pick up the phone and speak to prospective coaches.

Posters like Jordan need to save their outrage for outrageous things.

Not at all. It’s just amusing so many Carlton tragics have been defending their ‘review process’ when it was clearly a complete sham to provide an external ‘excuse’ to turf Teague. Such a gutless board.

I look at it from another perspective.

'expecting to play finals' puts everyone on notice that from this point on, close enough is not good enough, mediocrity will not be tolerated and most importantly, explains why people have been pushed out the door.

If we don't want to set higher standards and work to them, we have nothing more of substance & belief to offer anyone

Saying the club "expects to be playing finals next year" puts a lot of pressure on the coach and staff right off the bat. Hypothetically let's say Carlton lose the first against the Tigers and get unlucky with an Eagles round 2 and then play Geelong round 3. Probably all three are losses. They have now already opened up for the barrage of media attention on your new coach from reporters after clicks. "Are Carlton going to make finals", "will they sack their new coach", "is the season looking like another Carlton failure" etc. etc. etc.

They've gone through this whole football department review and it bought them time. A couple of years at least where they can say they're working through the required changes from the report. Instead they've put a literal one year timeline where it's finals or failure right off the bat.

Obviously every team should be aspirational in looking to play finals each year. But after such a big year of negativity in the media around the club, why add fuel for next year?

EDIT: Noticed I was a few pages early and a few have pointed this out, so not expecting a response and not meant to be a pile on.

Members would rather hear him say that than we are aiming for 9th.
