Over the last couple of weeks in threads covering Collingwood and Hawthon's upcoming change in apparel sponsorships there has been a bit of discussion as to where jumpers are currently manufactured.

Presently there are eight companies sponsoring AFL teams, which is split as follows:

West Coast - Puma
Fremantle - ISC
Adelaide - Reebok
Port Adelaide - Reebok
Brisbane - KooGa
Gold Coast - Reebok
Sydney - ISC
GWS - ISC
Geelong - ISC
Carlton - Nike
Collingwood - Adidas
North Melbourne - Blades
Melbourne - New Balance
Hawthorn - Puma
Richmond - KooGa
Bulldogs - KooGa
St Kilda - ISC
Essendon - Adidas

So the questions I have are:

where are the jumpers (not other items of apparel) made? Australia, China, Indonesia, etc?

Are player issue jumpers manufactured in a different location to the replicas?

I'll kick it off. Puma, Adidas and Nike have been have been providing AFL clubs with jumpers since the mid 90's, these three companies have always made both PI and replica jumpers made in Australia.

Well the mother jumper and father jumper love each other very much and...................................

This is why I'm intrigued where collingwoods apparel will be aquired from when Eddie McGuire preaches keeping jobs on shore and keeping Aussies in jobs.

There's plenty of Aus manufacturers of jumpers.
Lyon Sportswear in Mordialloc do all the VAFA jumpers, Sherwood in Spotswood do the WRFL and some EDFL, Teamworks in Geelong make them for almost anyone.
Then there's manufacturers like Kombat in Queensland and Sekem in WA.
Plenty of jumpers get made in Aus.
Sekem used to make the jumpers for clubs whose apparel sponsor did not have the machinery.
I had assumed adidas was one of these, but macri's information might have changed my mind.
Puma are definitely made in Melbourne, ISC are made in Sydney. And I believe KooGa makes theirs in Queensland.
New Balance and Blades get theirs made in China.
That really only leaves Reebok, and my understanding is they do not manufacture anything in the western world, all their production of everything they make is in China and India.
It would be interesting to get a Reebok jumper and see if it has a Made In label on it. I would be interested to see if they had one and where they were made.

I hate the Blades jumpers.. the material is stiff and uncomfortable to wear :thumbsd:

The sizing of them are weird too. I usually buy a M or L in footy jumpers because I like them loose and easy to fit over a jumper in winter. I brought a NM away because I like the look of it and to add to my collection. The L looked too small so I got a XL. When I got it home I tried it on and it was still really tight. Especially around my chest.

Saw a bunch of Melbourne Reebok stuff yesterday, Jumpers were made in Australia. Also saw a Richmond KooGa replica, made in China.

Sekem did make player issue stuff for some of Adidas clubs during the mid/late 90's.

I'm fairly sure Wests Tigers PI's are made in Sydney, so that would probably mean that the rest of their teams are as well. Replicas however are definately made in China.

In our household we have 4 Adelaide "Adidas" polyester guernseys (kids sizes) - all made in Australia. We also have 2 Adelaide "Reebok" guernseys - they are Australian made as well.

IMO Collingwood should be undertaking their future guernsey manufacturing operations in Australia.

Isc pi's made overseas? I dont think so? But i think they could be

ISC player issue guernseys are made in Sydney - they are printed and manufactured by a company called Acline. Acline also have their own brand Fi-Ta.

Short run Kooga gear such as player issue and local club jumpers are done on the GC. Makes sense to do the bulk stuff like replica guernseys offshore. I run the merchandise for my footy club up in Sydney and we use Kooga. The difference in pricing between getting a polo or shorts done in China is about 30-40%, takes a bit longer but when you're spending $10k on shorts that is a lot of money to a local club.

The only apparel Reebok make in the western world are Ice Hockey jerseys for the players only. These are made in Canada. Otherwise even the so-called "on-ice" jerseys you can buy in the shops are made in indonesia. Might be the same deal with AFL jerseys not sure.

Seen many Melbourne Reebokreplicas which are made in Aus.

Western bulldogs guernseys are made in Fiji. Hawthorn guernseys are made in china, BLK is western bulldogs, Fremantle dockers is isc, west coast eagle is puma, Hawthorn is adidas, Sydney swans are isc etc. Normally you can buy them from the Afl stores around Australia. Geelong cats guernseys are made in Australia, Fremantle dockers guernseys are made in Australia or some country in Asia.
