Where are north at?

North fans. Got to love them.

According to them, nobody who supports a team lower on the ladder is qualified to voice an opinion about their club. God forbid a peasant Richmond fan or a supporter of another team in the bottom 8 starts a discussion about the almighty North Melbourne football club.

Good to see you know your place, peasant. And thanks for publicly acknowledging our greatness.

I didn't say that I said statistically they have been better in almost every category. Haven't seen a single Richmond fan creaming their pants over either to get into the best under 22 list though. To me McDonald appears a big bust for a first rounder.

You just worry about Vickery, Vlastuin and Lennon mate. We'll be fine.

I wrote earlier in this thread or another thread: This incarnation of North Melbourne is the furthest side from a flag than any other club bar Carlton.

Now I can remove Carlton from the list and replace them with no one. North are bereft of top class talent to compete with the remaining 7 finalists and they don't have the quality potential youngsters to compete with the other 10 non-finalists in future years.

Ironic that they are now in the position that they mocked Richmond for being in for so long - fringe of the 8 with not enough quality to win a flag.

I'd probably have Collingwood around that mark. Treloar won't pull you out of hopelessness.
The experience Brad Scott got at Collingwood has really sealed his fate.

North got screwed during that period of coach availability. Unfortunately the Pies copped it harder and both sides need an overhaul.

North are one of my least favourite clubs in the league, and it's not for anything they've really done on the field, although I can think of a few Just look at perennial diver Lindsay Thomas breaking Gary Rohan's leg, and Spud Firrito being one of the most talentless hacks in the game whilst being an absolute pest to his direct opponent.
No, the main reason for me is their list management. It is the worst piece of crap I have ever seen in the AFL. Full of B grade players over 30, with the exception of Brent Harvey who is a genetic freak for lasting so long and still contributing. Only young player who I have any confidence in is Ben Brown. Maybe it's because he actually gets consistent gametime. Their whole philosophy when it comes to youth just s**ts me up the wall.
So where are #lolNorf at? They're in the 8, but are two grades below any other team in it, including a NicNat-less WCE. And with the way their list is at currently, they are only going to go downhill unless they really change things up quick smart.

Are you still bitter about the semi final last year, or nervous that it will happen again this year?

When we lost our top quarter of best players? Nah not really. Nervous it'll happen again? Lol, are you kidding me?

Nice to notice you haven't actually addressed any of my points.

Because your points are just pot shots at lindsay and Spud, and our B grade over 30s.

Ill start on Adam Goodes but you will probably carry on as much as he did.

Alright, you carry on about a dual Brownlow, dual premiership winner, 4 time all australian (including in three different positions) and legend of the game (up there with Boomer, I might add). I'll continue to make my main point that your list management is up there with the worst in the league

Quote from a North fan on page 1 of this thread. Strangely we agree on a few points :P

North have been positioning towards nothing more than a 'Bradbury'.

The stars aligned with no dominant teams in the comp, but recruiting old, injury prone players and incorporating a meek culture has come back to bite them.

Rotting from the inside trying to fool and intimidate the umpires.

Ducking and diving earlier in the year like school girls while trying to execute a robotic and passionless style.

The Thomas affair has cemented a collective yips and permanent excuse. The club has lost a lot of respect because of Thomas' behavior. Clubs go out of their way to 'beat the cheat'.

Scott has a hall pass with the injured old brigade and after 7 years his only option is to play hardball and risk losing the players or have the spotlight put on his development skills.

It's all too little too late and the club is left with a career coach that leaves too many aces up his sleeve and recruited too many hacks or potential liabilities.

Face it, you guys are in trouble.

North are one of my least favourite clubs in the league..

You should try being a card-carrying member with Longmire, Clarkson and Simpson coaching lesser cultures.

I agree that their management of youth is deplorable.

The easy finals draws of late has swept this issue under the carpet.

There's an internal war against the youth at North partly in order to prove their plodder recruitment was justified.

Gibson has played 106 consecutive games since brought over from Box Hill. Around half at AFL standard. Zero emphasis on club foot skills and standards that stubbornly refuses to bring the club into the 21st century.

Nahas and Ray have continually stolen vital development time and the list goes on.
Brown dominated the finals series two years ago but was dropped round 1 because Scott was scared of the Crows.

Dumont dominated his first game at Geelong but was unfairly dropped or made sub every second week until flicked long term.

Wood was denied games for years with plenty of standout skills regularly on display.

Brad Scott delays or refuses to play the talented youth (injuries to senior types excluded) purely because he doesn't want to put his senior players positions in jeopardy.

Not only are they refused games, they are subtly refused a chance to shine in the AFL with their roles. You can just about guarantee a North young talent will not back up a good performance or kick more than 3 goals in a game.

It's actually a bit sinister and I'm sick of it. Keeping all the old boys/hack recruits in witness protection while the youth face a type of bullying and suppression.

It's weak and gives the coach a permanent excuse and sympathy from outsiders.

This suppression is partly why they won't fall as much as people suggest.

Frustrating club that is locked into 2 more years of 6-12. Scott will move on and the club will be in decent enough shape to have a crack with Ziebell, Cunnington, Brown, Wood, Clarke, Tarrant, McMillian, McDonald, Goldstein, Dumont, Turner, Garner etc.

Brad needs to start viewing the younger players as more than a threat to his mateship with senior players. It's limiting and selfish.

100% agree with you. You guys have excellent young talent in terms of potential. I'm thinking of Garner, Dumont, and Wood in particular, but even Kayne Turner has impressed me. But the problem is that they don't get consistent game time, and that only stagnates their development. In more recent times Hibberd and Mountford have looked good in the juniors, but it baffles me that Wagner got a game ahead of those two.

It's a shame Turner and Garner haven't been able to get on the park. Some real hurt and fear factor to compliment the class of Harvey and Higgins. Throw in Wood and Brown and it starts to threaten.

North are paying for poor management and the list has basically shit itself through injury, imploding from decisions of the past continually being justified and limiting the present. Swallow's position, Gibson, Anderson, injury prone recruits and even the public displays of denial regarding LT have all dug a type of grave for the team.

Keeping the youthful talent from outshining the invested must be hard work.

Who could be bothered really. Anything but making a hard decision.

Shit's going to get awkward over the next couple of years.

A brave decision, kudos to the Roos management. It might be a hard couple of years but the nature of this game means you're better off in the long term.

Harvey still playing really good football? Could have been handy for one more season surely?
