Where are north at?

Yep the old Richmond play.

Don't admit we are not good enough just a couple players away from a good team again.

You rely way too much on your old bloke
Your mid age tier isn't that great
Uour kids are ok but nothing really to get too excited about except maybe a couple.

It's rebuild time not band aid time mate, if your club can't accept that it will float mid table for years. I'm more than happy for you guys too do that but if I supported the Roos I'd be ropable if they chase more mature fixes at this stage.
You sound like your a Hawthorn supporter?

They're the same team which got to 9-0 on the back of a number of small wins against weak teams. The main change is that the opponents got tougher.

I just think they are to slow besides Wells in the midfield. Swallow, Zeibell, Cunnington, Gibson etc... Good players but all very similar.

Yeah, you're right. Without Wells, our midfield gets broken open really easily if they're not first to the ball. Ziebell, Swallow and Cunnington are ridiculously slow.

Think you are being a bit dismissive of the quality of some of those players. That said, have to agree that we don't have enough game breakers. Have too many players that promised a lot but haven't come on like hoped. Eg Ziebell. At his best he is game breaking elite, but he just doesn't do it anywhere near often enough.
Ziebell is so far from elite it isn't funny.

Like Adelaide and the Bulldogs?
You've lost to every other top 8 team you've played (haven't played GWS yet).

If that doesn't scream alarm bells nothing does.

Went all in on a premiership over the last couple of years and haven't made the grade. Look the most likely of the current 8 to drop out next year and from there I can see a pretty sizable rebuild. Their forward line appears to be crumbling while their midfield continues to look fairly one-paced. Got some nice kids but none (apart from maybe Clarke) are currently projecting to be stars.

I'd hope for their sake they have a fairly big list cull at the end of this year to kick-start the process.

We are in a pickle with an aging list no doubt about it, but hey we will play finals do some off field changes and go again.
I don't understand clubs like Richmond Carlton and the likes that have done **** all lately talk about north yeah we have won a few finals that's not a primership but there hard to win so it's better than most other vic clubs have done in the last 10 years.
Look at your own club then talk crap.

North are a bit one dimensional, if their gameplan works they'll beat anyone in the competition, I worry that there's not often a plan B or C.

With us for example, we aren't traditionally a flooding type of team but if need be we can be, we've had matches where we've scored heavily but for the most part we are a low scoring team. We can change based on the opponent we're playing, I don't know if North are able to do that.

I like them, I'm one of the few doggies supporters who do obviously, but I feel that most the time games are decided based on who is in the coaches box, and not who is on the field.

Slow players are fine if you have the fast support around you - really, really need Jed Anderson to have a good pre-season. Quick mids can play fairly early in their career so targeting a particular type at the draft could serve North well.

I may be naive but that's part of the reason I'm not super concerned. I think the interchange reduction this year exposed our greatest weakness and having a massive run of injuries (most particularly in game ones that further reduce rest time) further exposed this. As you say, the postitive is that with good drafting faster mids generally can come on and impact much quicker.

I'm also not too fussy about impending retirements, very few have held the team together this year (plenty of North supporters would argue some of them have held us back). Waite early was brilliant, Wells is quality when on field after that it drops away very quickly. Drew has been poor, Boomer has been okay with the odd game breaking moment but they're fewer and further between. NDS has been meh. We'll thank a bunch of players for their service end of year and will inject another batch of young blood to go with the last 5+ years of drafting.

The core of the team has all been either very solid, injured or both alternatively: Wright, McDonald, Ziebell, Goldstein, Tarrant, Wood, Higgins, Thomas, Jacobs, Brown, MacMillan are all core players that will be around for at least 3+ years each minimum. That's a very solid core.

Brad Scott is too set in his ways. He should try Atley in the middle or at least experiment with players in different positions instead of leaving them to plateu to no meaningful form.
That's just one example

drop kick of the highest order. you ain't got anything to be smart about eh.

If your going to attempt to belittle me and attack my intelligence, at least attempt to do so by not using text a trained chimpanzee would be embarrassed by.

I understand that may be hard for some but give it a try you may surprise yourself, although I doubt it.

Oh I aplogize I hadn't realized that on an internet forum I had to quite return to the standards of a court of appeal and be ultimately
embarrassed by things which I said in jest that could easily have been said on a footy field.

I was of course making a tremendous 'joke' about the relevance of North Melbourne a club I have a great respect for and well I often like
pushing to the limits. Ie can you take a joke? well om I hope you can take a joke because I don't quite apologize.

have another toffie mate.... :(

It's toffee

But keep trying

Like Adelaide and the Bulldogs?

Well, two small wins against contenders. I'm more looking at the mediocrity suggested by margins like 5 (Melbourne), 7 (St Kilda), 14 (Essendon), 28 (Gold Coast), 31 (Fremantle) and 34 (Brisbane). (That was, of course, the same Melbourne team which had just lost to Essendon). Results like these suggest that you were the slightly luckier of the two mediocre teams contesting the match, and that is reflected in the 3/10 which North has achieved subsequently.

I love how a few months ago people were yammering about how having old blokes was going to cost us one of the 'brightest young stars in the comp' in Mason Wood. Now that he's re-signed it's back to "North have no good young players".

Honestly, if even 5% of the opposition posters in this thread put two minutes of real thought into their rating of our team, this might actually be a worthwhile thread. It ain't.
