As a neutral it was clearly North that overachieved in the finals last year. Swans and Freo clearly the underformers based on H&A form. Right teams played the GF but that's not my point.

Last time I checked finals are what count and they played well in finals.

They may have dropped away this year, but you can't bag their performances last year.

Are North fans really trying to argue they have more young talent (i.e. under 23) than us? I mean they've been a better team than us in recent times but surely now with all our kids playing its clear to see that the Bombers are far ahead in that particular area.

Essendon has Darcy Parish, Joe Daniher, Zach Merrett, Aaron Francis, Marty Gleeson, Orazio Fantasia, Dyson Heppell, Kyle Langford, Jayden Laverde, Michael Hartley, Jake Long, Conor McKenna + pick one etc. Obviously most of these guys have more to offer as they continue to develop.

North Melbourne has Anderson, Dumont, Clarke, McDonald, Turner and Wood. I'm not sure if you'd take this group of guys ahead of Essendon's.

Pretty obvious to anyone not biased against the Bombers. Merrett is a genuine gun, Daniher will finish with 40 goals this season which is more than a decent return considering the circumstances, Parish looks the goods, Fantasia will finish on 30+ and also looks like a jet etc.

North's youth is pretty lackluster by comparison, and they don't any emerging stars to the level of Merrett, Bont, Cripps et al.

You outperform us because you have a much more experienced and older list. Pretty simple I would've thought.

But when your best players all retire within the next 2-3 seasons and you're left with Anderson and Turner (lol), we'll see who outperforms who.

their last two final series have been good without being that impressive that i thought they would make the top 4.
They beat us in 2014 after Ben Brown monstered Steinberg (and we weren't that great).
Then got a very flat, tired Geelong who were out in straight sets
2015 they had the tigers then an injury hit Swans.

While this isn't over-achieving, i don't think the signs were ever there that this team was ready to dominate the finals.
i think they achieved their max over the last 3 years and i think Scott gets a tick for building a decently competitive list. Question is, can he rebuild it.

We haven't been forced to play our young kids. We still have developing kids in the VFL. Your list of kids have had game time - yet not striking fear into anyone. You named Jake long, Gleeson and McKenna for god sake.

Maybe wait and see how good Durdin and few others are before comparing to a clearly superior team. Your every chance to be bottom 4 for a third year in a row than to try and take our spot in the top 8.

You also continue to lose your talented players so the chances of all kids still being at Essendon in 5 years is slim to none.

To be fair to the wild w***er, you lot at Essendon land did get your pants pulled down in recent finals.

Finals suck when you limp out with nothing more than a fear of another dose.

Building up the kids while hiding from finals can eventually find you staring at the abyss.

i seem to recall Lovett-Murray as ruck. Hirdy did some strange selections in 2011 as well. very Knights like.
That 2014 game we should have bottled. Cant remember why Carlisle missed, but we seriously needed him as third tall that night.

North are good for a laugh and a stir but how are they the worst list in the AFL sitting 8th and coming off consistent finals

They may be in danger of sitting in no mans land longterm if not careful, but lets not make believe they are a poor side, average yep sure
