Yeah, of the older guys, he was probably the one I would have been most likely to keep, if he was keen. Partly because he still provides something, and also because his role is one there aren't any near-ready replacements for.

Even given his preparation and professionalism off field would have been handy, especially if you're bringing in 5-6 kids this year.
Let alone he is quick and provides a outside run which North seem to need.

Good luck to the guy - he took time out of his training schedule to help Lachie Hunter and Nathan Hrovat out during their TAC u18 year.

Parting ways with Petrie, Firrito and NDS is the right call but I am stunned they have done so with Boomer as well.

Clearly good enough to go around again next year and I would have thought there are plenty others who could be cut loose before him.

Wood is already better than Petrie, plus hopefully we won't rely on the overloaded big-man forward line again. Anyone with a little size who can move off a straight line can replace Firrito's last couple of years. Did a role, but very limited the last two years or so.

Dal Santo's delivery is a bit more difficult to replace, but Higgins can arguably fill the role better when fit. Boomer, no replacement.

Probably no finals next year, but on form it was looking like no finals next year anyway. So its time to move a few on (I would have kept Harvey). Should not be anywhere near the bottom couple though.

These decisions are practice for the board for when they make their call on Brad Scott and practice for Scott to make a call on Swallow, Waite, Thomas, Hansen, Gibson, Ray and Nahas.

Now to make Ziebell captain and work out which one of Gibson or Swallow takes the phone book for disposal.

A new forward coach with completely fresh and different structures/ideas is the other component.

They could be a better side next year, especially if they pick up a new shiny midfielder and half forward to take up the slack of overrated momentum killers Gibson/Swallow/Thomas.

I hope we don't go after Cloke, but if we can offload Hansen to Collingwood for a photo of their training centre and half a flat diet coke, everyone wins.

Higgins is 29 next season & has had one injury free year at best since he was drafted. Plus - I thing he's a good player but not someone who enjoys a rebuild. He's better at charging over the top not in the trenches. And north are bedding down for a long campaign. Winter is coming.

Oh, I'm not saying he is a long term replacement, but he can fill a role for a couple of years while someone builds their experience. You can't offload every older player in one hit.

North made their bed. Brad is their choice.

Kind of like having a reasonably attractive girlfriend everyone says is hot but you know she's deadset cooked in the head and would be a shocking mother.

Biding time till she cheats/runs off/doesn't put out.

In the mean time you just try and enjoy her 'experience' or positive qualities.

The majority of our best 18 are in their mid 20's, we've had most of our top draft picks building for a few years.
