Interesting that ex players and coaches are returning to the GC or never leaving at all. With age comes wisdom, and bad hips
It's not really a new phenomenon though. Victorian Roger Merrett retired from the Bears in 1996 and never left the Gold Coast. Instead he got heavily involved with a local post office/the Southport Sharks (as well as Bond University more recently) and raised his family here. A better example for KK is Warwick Capper who spent three years with the Bears between 1988-1990 before heading back to the Swans for one last year and then retiring. Sure enough, he immediately moved back to the Gold Coast in 1992 and played in the Southport Sharks' QAFL premiership that year. The Wiz then stayed on the Gold Coast for 20+ years after retirement and raised a family here. We saw Matt Shaw do the same thing a few years back when he finished his career at Carlton and has been living here and playing for Southport ever since.

Victorian Dale Dickson played the majority of his football career with the Demons and spent his last three years with the Bears. He is now the Chief Executive Officer of the Gold Coast City Council. Josh Hall is a really interesting example of a guy who had a crack at trying to make it in another code with Penrith before moving back to the Gold Coast and playing for Southport. After living interstate for nearly 15 years, Kurt Tippett is now back home and living on the Gold Coast. Even the Candyman AKA Travers Beynon spent multiple years on North Melbourne's list before ending his career with the Bears and hasn't looked back since. He is obviously now one of the most prominent residents of the Gold Coast. There are countless examples.

Obviously the lifestyle is a huge factor. People actually want to live and raise families here so our local football clubs are really benefitting from their willingness to stay/return. Also, there isn't as much incentive to leave these days given we currently have two teams in the VFL.

Andrew Swallow left Melbourne once he retired to head up to the coast

Troy Clarke a famous QLD AFL name eventually settles on the GC after a number of years within AFL circles in various states.

Was a great junior coach with significant influence over GC development pathways in the mid 2000's

Always liked him as a player, and his work in developing footy was exceptional.

They will be awesome to watch! Sharks I'm tipping to make finals

Here is the full list and more details about the list. I may missed someone. Agree, it's a very good team. Still to contract 9 players.
Sharks got 4 coaches.

SQUAD:
Southport currently have a 45-man squad and will trim it to the required 40 following its two practice games. Under VFL rules, the club needs to have 12 players aged under 22, with many local Gold Coast talents pushing their claims for a spot on the list. The list has to be submitted to the AFL by April 5, with the first round scheduled to begin on April 17.

NEW COACH: A Shark steam already brimming with elite coaches in Stephen Daniel and his assistants, including Matthew Primus and Matthew Lappin, have bolstered the line up further.
Luke Kenelley has joined the club and will be coaching Southport’s forwards in 2021.

I thought Ashton was supposed to be a strong chance to make our list, anyone know what happened ?

Jack Martin out with a calf for round 1

I thought he was a medium chance at best, didn't really standout as prospect. But his brothers sh*t wouldn't of helped his chances
Will be interested to see how he goes with the Sharks in the VFL as we have a couple of spots available in the mid season draft now, the kid who went to west adelaide seems to be doing well

Do you mean Harrison Wigg?

Josh Gore is at West Adelaide but SANFL doesn't start until next week.

Was at the Lions game tonight.

Cal Ah Chee was woeful.
Got shown up big time by Errol Gulden and Sam Wicks who he was mostly marking.
