I don't think we can either, with our last 1st round selections coming in 2015, but then you read this article https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-06-05/finals-trade-plans-next-coach-your-clubs-burning-questions and one of their burning questions is if we go to the draft or trade the pick. That said, I don't think too many afl.com.au journos have been accused of being well researched.

Trade for the right player (elite disposal type) otherwise take to the draft. Ideally we'd have traded this year's pick for May and taken last year's pick to the draft and gotten Bailey Smith in, is the exact type we need. GC likely would have thought we'd finish top 6 tho lol

Yeah very much agree, by the way its shaping up at the moment it looks like there will be quite a few likely outside types in the 3-10 range of this years draft who have good foot skills and are linebreakers being Hayden Young, Lachlan Ash, Dylan Stephens, and Jeremy Sharp.

The sad but true part of this post is that unfortunately we are now looking (or I am anyway) at what potential draftees we might pick up this year, didn't look last year, didn't worry about it, and that was a good feeling to have. **** it!

I know your version of Dom Tyson is a Werribee specialist, but he was rather important in 2014, 15 and 16 in our rise up the ladder. You could in fact argue that the Dees are a bottom four team, and were only lifted out of there for five years due to the greatness of one T.Dyson. The numbers stack up. 2013 and 2019 are 1 BCE (Before Dommon Era) and 1 DE, and we're bottom four in both.

Salem is excellent too, I'd be delighted to draft one like him at pick two. Even though Kelly is obviously a level above.

Bitch please. He played well in 2014 when he was a free wheeling unaccountable midfielder. Beyond that he was ordinary at best. Him playing well in 2014 did not save us from folding. We were s**t in 2014 and expectations were pretty modest from where we were coming from.
He had great hair but was only ever a B grade footballer. If I could have played onball for Melbourne in 2014 and not worried about my man I reckon I would have been good for 20+ possessions a week too.

Unless that pick can be used as part of a deal to get an A grade midfielder ready to go (Coniglio for example) I reckon we keep it and use it on a gun outside player from the draft. We need genuine talent. Having that pick gives us access to the top 5 rated players in the draft.

The thing is you won’t get a gorilla forward from the draft, it takes several years of pushing weights around to turn you into a gorilla from 18. I am happy with Weidemann and TMac won’t be this poor forever.

Midfielder is no.1 priority with an outside game and better skills than our crop.
