Where do we win this?

being able to kick straight is nothing to do with being "due". some players can kick set shots other cannot.
BBB can kick straight, Dish cannot Waithe and higgo can, gibbo cannot,LT can where Garner cannot.
our accuracy will reflect the players that take the shots on goal.
Yep. Dish as the hit up all game, Waite and Brown alternating deep. One on a dummy lead to leave the mismatch one out. We simply can't afford costly set shot sodas being sprayed wide ala last 2 weeks. We won't dominate the Inside 50 count enough to have the luxury of missing gimmes as Drew is notorious for. We do that this week and we are toast.

There is hope.
We have a ruckman that can match theirs.
We have the tall backs to match up on their tall forwards. Tarrant, Thompson, Hansen and Firrito give us options.
Our forward line can stretch their backline, which is missing players. Who gets Waite and Brown?
Jacobs to Shuey or Priddis. Gibson must go to Gaff. Garner to stand Hurn.
They are better than us on the spread...we need our inside mids to play well and we need Goldy to ensure that is way the midfield battle pans out.
Tough to win in Perth against an in-form side that is well rested...and we deserve to be outsiders, but 9 wins from our last 11 (one of which we pulled up in) suggests we're not without a chance.

For a start we need to take in the same mindset this week as we have the last two weeks. Last year I think we were in part mentally cooked due to the scare Geelong gave us by nearly snatching it in the last half of the last quarter of the 1st semi. Had that bloke Hoodi Greenlev goaled from that set shot midway through the last quarter, I think we would have sealed the game and gone on to the Preliminary with a different mindset.

Last night I was pleased to see the boys walking off after the game, obviously very satisfied with what they had achieved, but not by any means over-celebrating.

Nevertheless this is a far bigger test than Sydney was, because we are facing a very well refreshed team on their home deck and with a very parochial home crowd behind them. In contrast we will have quite a few boys very sore from last night, with Drewy at the head of the queue. Saunders may have to live at his house this week to get him as close to fit as possible. Majak must be one of the emergencies this week in case Drewy doesn't come up.

We may also have to deal with "Captain High Pants" Margetts, back home wearing his Eagles jumper underneath the olive green shirt.

Garner has to get job on Hurn. Thomas not tight enough, Nahas and Turner too light. This is his role.

I think that is a pretty smart match up. Garner is hard and tough and good in the air. Sugar should be lurking not too far away to land a few bone rattling tackles.

And the obligatory armchair ride from the umpires they normally get......

Swans are usually a good rebound team and Richmond also - tbh at times this year they've been almost Hawthorn like. Both of them we managed to shut down their rebound - we'll need that again out of our forwards. Plus converting a few more.

And obviously we have to win the midfield battle - we have every chance of that on current form. Tarrant playing well is also key.

Tuner stays for mine, his forward pressure and tackling is immense. I prefer him playing than Garner tbh. Lindsay must start

I haven't seen this sort of intensity from us in a big game for a long long time. And for 4 quarters. Bring that and we'll be a good chance next week.

This. Our pressure had them rattled last night.

Also...

If everyone does their job and stays focused.

That's basically it.

We belong here and we can go further.

If we work hard enough and believe in ourselves we are good enough.

And don't let Gibbo have any shots on goal.

I want us to win desperately. But if not I want them to be hurting through that match.

But this is not a time to say well played, we got this far. Let's show them who the ****ing boss is.

What?
Turner was couragous but Garner played a better game easy. I'd like them both in but if i had to choose it would be Garner. Actually i think Garner is a lock for the prelim..

This is how i see us exploiting the Eagles and making our way to the Grand Final.

1. Tall forwards exploit their undersized defense.
All need to clunk their marks and kick straight, every shot at goal will be like gold.

2. Tag Priddis or Shuey/Gaff out of the game, i think Jacobs is up to the task.

3. Our inside mids to take our contesting tackling game to another level.
Do not let WCE play their style of outside game and deliver it lace out to Kennedy/Darling/etc.

4. Swing Goldy fwd to make Nic Nat defend.

5. Swing Ziebell & Cunnington fwd to further exploit defense.

6. Fast start is essential, lets shut up their feral crowd and nullify their hometown umpiring early.
Then grind out the win from there.

LETS ****ing do this Kangas, our time is now!!!
We have made it this far lets keep going!

I think the game will be decided on marks in your forward 50. If Petrie, Brown and Waite can clunk marks, you'll go close to winning. If the ball hits the deck and you allow Hurn, Wellingham, Sheppard, Ellis etc to rebound, it'll be game over.

If we bring the pressure we can they will struggle to move it.

It sounds arrogant but I'm starting to feel like its North that will decide who wins this game. I think WC just have to hope we don't show up. Not because WC are no good, far from it. There is something special about this NM side - they are a champion team not a team of champions and I think they're starting to understand just how important each and every one doing their job on game day is. West Coast are a class side. If we don't bring our best we won't win. If we do we'll give ourselves every chance.

Should be a cracking game.

Congratulations to Nick Dal on playing his 300th. Congratulations North on making the prelim, all you got to do is get up close & personal & apply plenty of pressure to the Weagles back men & make them turn it over. Good luck guys hope you do it. :thumbsu:

Serious posts wanted, serious post given.

Which team has more goal scorers who have scored 24 or more goals this season than WCE.

NM
Higgins
Harvey
Petrie
Thomas
Waite
Brown
Nahas

Strength one

Which team has the most complete single ruckman in the comp

NM - Goldstein

Strength two

So we maximise our strengths by ensuring one or two of our forwards get off the leash, kick straight and when we get a run of momentum use it.

WCE will use 2 ruckmen. That means we have one more non ruck options than WCE use it.

Equally we have to manage the momentum breaks. In the last quarter we have scored 4 or more goals for from memory the last 13 weeks. Equally our second quarters have been shithouse so maximise the former and minimise the latter.

Lastly, start well. This is self evident but hard at Subi to achieve. Don't start well and the game is over by half time.

Apart from some of the obvious match ups mentioned already in this thread like Gibson onto Gaff, Jacobs onto Priddis / Shuey and sitting on Hurn with Garner it is our contested ball winning ability coupled with the type of defensive pressure, chasing and tackling we have exhibited in the last 2 weeks that will give us our best chance to win this game.

We do struggle to be clean at times when we win the ball and as this game will be hot there will be plenty of kicking it long to another contest. This is why our defensive efforts and structures will be so important. We can't allow them to hurt us on the counter. Keep it contested and that will be playing to our strengths.

So the two keys for mine is winning the contested ball and applying that manic pressure on the ball carrier we have executed so well in the 2 finals thus far. We do both these things and we will go a long way to winning this. :stern look
