My brother and I are having a few wagers on how certain bulldog players will fare in 2014. I rate Talia quite highly and he doesn't at all! I've bet him $100 that Talia will feature in the best players on at least 5 occasions.

Which leads me to my question, where do you get your football stats?

I wanted to check how many times Talia featured in the bests in 2013 but can't find that particular stat anywhere.

That stat pretty much doesn't exist, unless you went through them yourself. I've noticed newspapers and even other sites might have different bests, so it's probably a good idea to go with the AFL site or at least agree through what you use beforehand. Sometimes it's like some bests go off the stat list, not the actual influence of what they did with them

You make a good point. Any measure is going to be flawed. DT points wouldn't do it justice either. Doesn't seem like they assess 'impact'.

So you can check who featured in the bests on the AFL website? Can you provide me with a link to get me started? I can't seem to find it.

Yep go through the afl.com.au match summaries from the past year if you want bests.

For nearly every other stat, you go to footywire and check it. If the stat isn't there, then you're nitpicking and the stat is far too specific to be part of a proper argument.

afl.com.au just uses most dreamteam points as its bests.
I remember the game that we beat Port this year, Kane Cornes was Port's best player according to afl.com.au and he would have turned over the ball 10 times.
