Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on our cup versus some of the other world trophies out there. Anyone think we need to make it a bit more modern? Or stick with tradition? Thoughts?

AFL Premiership Cup

NHL Stanley Cup

NFL Vince Lombardi Trophy

NBA Larry O'Brien Trophy

Fifa World Cup Trophy

I like ours but the FIFA world cup is pretty awesome.

The Lombardi trophy isn't bad either but the Stanley Cup is a bloody ugly chunky thing.

There's a lot of important symbolism about the shape of our cup and I think it would lose a little something if they tried to modernise it to an NFL type thing.

If they modernised it slightly but kept it the same shape I wouldn't mind.

In my opinion...

AFL looks classic and timeless, but maybe a bit too simple.

NHL looks ridiculous, do they keep adding on to it as they run out of space?

NFL is cool, modern, but will it age well?

NBA - same as NFL, but with a bit more class.

FIFA is great, maybe a bit too complex.

Actually the more I look at the AFL cup, it kind of looks like something from ancient Roman times. I think we all love it though because of it's romantic notion rather than how it looks.

I reckon the Stanley Cup is the winner. I like the tradition of having all the teams and players names engraved on there as well. Half the players at the soccer world cup would struggle to lift it above their heads. Out of those above, my least favourite is the AFL one, by some considerable margin.

I'm a fan of the Lombardi Trophy myself. Only problem with the AFL cup is the ugly serrated thing the handles have going on at the top.

I tend to agree with you. And I am not sure why. I used to love it lol:eek:

I like ours because the image of the coach and captain holding the cup up looks good. Hard to have two people hold the others.

It's not really a sustainable tradition though - not unless they plan to start presenting it with a forklift in the future.

The CL and EPL trophies have the handles. So does the FA Cup. So do most trophies in soccer when you think about it. Has that historic feek.

The FIFA one looks like an easter chocolate thats been left out in the sun too long.

The NBA one like a ball going into a wastepaper bin

The NHL one is just ridiculous.

NFL one looks perfect for the NFL, but too modern and corporationy for my tastes.

The AFL premiership cup is almost perfect, only bit I don't dig that much is the AFL logo, looks a bit cheap and tacky. Should be done in silver and gold
