Where is our "power" forward?

Don't get to upset guys. We have pick 5 and 19 in the nab draft which i am hoping will land us two very good kpp or at least one.

We also have the Pre season draft so hey to be honest we actually did quite good on trade week.

well done Clayton and Eade :thumbsu:

Honestly guys/gals do we need a power forward?Imo we have enough players at the club that could do the job, how many times during the year do you recall that we played a tall at ff for the whole game or two or three weeks in a row, i cant remember a time when we did. To much to often we relied on johno.

the top three are almost certain to be kreuzer, morton and cotchin in that order, arent they?

so we are a fair chance to get the 2nd best tall in the draft, depending on melbourne's choice.

Tall "power" forwards are acquired two ways.

1. Father-son.

2. National Draft.

The only exceptions to this that I can remember have been the trades of Tony Lockett and Barry Hall from the Saints to Sin City.

Chris Tarrant, Nathan Thompson, Trent Croad (was considered top KPF when traded to Freo, thus gaining number 1 selection), Alistair Lynch (while back I guess but so was Plugga), Anthony Rocca, Sav Rocca. There were no KPF's on offer really. Pitty there was no Polak type player this year round.

If we had've traded for Damon White and he'd failed, the same people firing criticism in this thread would have probably been down Scott Clayton's throat for picking him up in the first place.

You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time!

Yeah we don't need one.

Well we do need one, but you can't blame Eade and clayton for not delivering this trade period. Trading is a two way process and nobody exciting was available. You can't just walk in and demand Pavlich for your 22nd pick.

We might have picked up a marginal KPP in exchange for a late pick. You might think that just having a strong body down forward (like Morgan) would be of some use, even if he couldn't get many possessions. There is something to this theory, but a fit Skipper might be developed into something better than that and Tiller looks like becoming a good leading option. Further, McDougall might also come on.

Let's see what the PSD brings. I'd have loved to get Brennan but that isn't looking likely.

With all the late picks, it's worth remembering that Clayton often has a smokey or two in mind who others have missed. They are a better punt than known hacks. Harbrow almost slipped through last year.

This probably won't be a popular option - especially as I believe he also has dud knees - but Ian Perrie's been dropped from Adelaide's list. Is he an option as a tall forward in the PSD? By no means am I saying he's my choice, by the way!

We do need a tall, stronger built mobile forward in the mould of Chris Grant. I believe it is not possible to win a grand final with a small forward line only. Apart from anything else there is a toll to be paid on the bodies of young, lighter framed bodies (such as Murph) trying to play in key positions. In the big games we keep getting shut down. And whilst it can be argued that this is because (1) our mid field was beaten (2) our drive from the half back line was stifled or became ineffective and (3) we lost so many one on one contests, it certainly was the case that a tall forward who could take a grab, contest and bring the ball to ground could have improved our scoring. Quite simply put, against the top teams we cannot score. Too predictable = easy to shut down with no plan B. We can only hope that this is what Clayton is targeting in the national draft. McEvoy, even though he was not outstanding in the grand final, looked to me like he has the size and mobility to be what we want.

I also think it is crucial that we get into our side, more of what Paul Roos said re Mattner......inside, outside players with leg speed. We have some but not enough of the fitness or quality of Judd, Kerr, Cousins, Ling, Ablett. We could do with a couple more to put pressure on Cooney and Griffen (who we need to be so much fitter if they are to operate at the next level).

We went into this draft looking for a ruckman and a power forward. We picked up Hudson, but where is the forward we need?
Even if we pick up a young key position player, he's going to need at least a couple of years to step up.
I'm extremely disappointed we were unable to get someone like a Brennan, White etc..
Hell i would even of given Sam Power's selection for someone like Leigh Brown or Lance Whitnall.
The talk about Minson becoming a forward is fanciful at best. He might become a good ruckman one day, but I doubt he'll ever become a forward.
Just my opinion, but I think we've missed a chance.

Brown is rubbish,Whitnall is finished. I am pretty sure the club would have made enquiries about a tall forward but they don't grow on trees.

White failed a medical. Brennan's future is still up in the air but he is not a power forward anyway.

Lets wait until November 24th before we pass judgement.

I think our ruck division was a more pressing problem than our power forward column. I mean really, which clubs have genuine power forwards? I'm not even sure that I rate Mooney or Tredrea (current form) as a power forward. You don't need a superstar but you do at least need a very good player. And the simple fact is that no one was available. Kennedy could have been nice. Brennan is still a PSD chance (though slight). Roughead would have been a godsent. But beyond that, nothing.

We should draft a KPF, a natural forward, not an athletic tall skinny backman, e.g. the Roughead type over the Bradley type, with one of our first two picks.

Skipper, Tiller, McDougal, Everitt, Minson... we can try to fill our gap internally.

There were no decent power forwards being offered for trade anyway. Fevola was never going to leave Carlton.
There were no realistic options out there worth pick 5.
We need to draft very well with picks 5 and 19 especially, and work hard on Tiller, O'Shea, McDougall and Skipper.

Good call Libba39. Looking forward to watching O'Shea's progress in 2008.
