Haven't heard much of Shem lately. Is he injured? Playing in the development squad at Box Hill?
Anyone know what's happening with the man?

I think he's making a guest appearance in the new 'Where's Hodgey' line of books.

Shem's season has been interrupted with a foot injury so he's now just getting back into the flow of things in the development squad. Hopefully, he'll be playing Box Hill seniors by the end of the year. Well, I have my fingers crossed in hope...

Cheers guys for that.
You missed a good opportunity to see him play for the BH firsts in the ???? cup match a few weeks back, which was broadcast live on some pay TV channel or other.

If you missed the game that was a fair indicator of where he is at. Not too much impact at all and needs to learn the game particularly at the highest level.

However if you played him as a forward with the instruction to see ball get ball then nothing much is going to stand in his way (if it knows what's good for them!).Teaching him to lead and how to spread a defence will take time but he is very athletic, he runs very smoothly and has a good leap and he is really solid and does not let anyone stand in his way.

Shem has now played a few games in the Dev Squad. Can do everything a good player can do, except play footy. He needs a heap of game time just to learn when and where to go. He looks like he should make it but it is a big ask to play a sport you did not grow up playing. Irish aside, as they have the not all that dissimilar gaelic footy, not many internationals make it. It is not the athleticism it is the nous. No question on his athleticism.

Last seen at the Hall of Fame dinner fully expecting to have to make a speech after a glorious presentation that sadly never came. Yes, inductees are supposed to be out of the game for several years before they are eligible, but hey - surely that only applies to mere mortals. The gladiator was robbed, I tells ya!

He'll be a gem
Don't think well see him this yrr, next yr though, watch out!

What I saw of him in the foxtel cup, he reads the play really well, got a nice accurate field kick, quick across the field, good strength

Hopefully he does come in, allowing gunston to spend more time up forward

Shem had a bad foot injury at the beginning of the year & was in a moon boot for a while....It has taken him some time to recover his fitness & over-come the effects of his injury.....

3 goals to half time in the development squad game.....Plenty of time....As with Jed Anderson, we just need to be patient is all.

Anyone know the reason Shem is seen as a forward rather than defender?

His physical attributes are exactly what we lack in defense..

At the moment it might be more of getting his hands on the pill, which is easier to do up forward when there is no pressure of perfect disposal. I don't mind him staying forward though. In a few years when Heatherley is up and about we will have our Kiwi bookends!

Just read the match report on the B.H. web site apparently he had a real good game Shem.
Impressed on the forward line, kicked a couple of goals & even knocked out a team mate in some friendly fire. That means he goes for the nugget no matter what! Keep playing well Shem & maybe see in the big time sooner than later.

Just watched some footage of Shem on the hawks site. He's looking pretty good, can take
a decent contested mark and kicks goals pretty well.

Made sure Tom Gordon didn't kick any more than 8 goals.

Tom copped a corkie
