Double-edged sword... Trying to tag a loose back who has the talent and game-reading ability of McGovern will just bring an extra man to contests and make our job easier, whilst limiting scoring avenues for the opposition. On the AFL website today, they say stop the Gov, you stop the Eagles. Melbourne tried it last round ... that did not pan out too well.
From a team balance point of view if he could play CHF and spell Nic in the ruck - that would give us an extremely formidable forward line with plenty of scope for smalls
Hopefully Nic gets fitter to carry bigger ruck loads
I've been pushing his barrow for a while and it was interesting to hear that is Jeremy's preferred role

May that have been because of Franklin leaving, which meant Roughy was now their #1 KPP?Remember Adam Goodes played as the 2nd ruck early on. Then he got smashed / injured the knee and the Swans said they would NEVER play him in the ruck again. And they never did.
You don't play gun CHB's / CHF's in the ruck. That's what ruckmen are for. Hawthorn came to a similar conclusion with Roughead.

Gov wouldn't be in that position for us.
IMO the temptation of not having to carry a second ruckman (Lycett, Sinclair) in the forward line is huge.
NN playing 80% ruck, 15% bench and 5% taking speccies in the pocket.
McGovern playing 65% FF, 20% ruck, 15% bench.
JK and Darling full time forwards. Mackenzie, Barrass, Schofield full time backmen.
It gives us a crazy good mix of different strengths up forward and down back, and allows us to play 3 smaller players in the forward line to keep the ball locked in there if we don't mark it.
The alternative is playing a lumbering ruckman in the forwardline for 70% of the match, and one of Barrass and Schofield playing WAFL
I like Lycett but he is a ruckman through and through. He is decent on the lead but like Kennedy and Darling he is not much of a contested/pack mark.I can see us subbing out the 2nd ruckman at 3 qrt time and letting Naitanui + Gov handle the final term. NN at centre bounces and the Gov takes the backline throw ins / ball ups.
If we go in with NN + Gov and then NN is injured in the 1st qrt that's not great.
McInness as the 2nd ruck / KP forward in the next few years looks like a good option IMO.
Lycett should be the one though. Geez I hope he can realise his full potential with us here. His best we've only seen in glimpses but it is scary good. Especially when he drives that knee into the shoulder blades of opposition players taking a big mark.![]()

McGovern just complements JK/JD so well.
Will be interesting to see how it all goes anyway!
Playing McGovern as part time ruckman as a 24 yr old is not quite the same as playing a 19 yr old in the ruck full timeNah wouldnt risk gov getting injured
Look how carlton flogged cruize in the ruck and cruelled him

For one game...he's not that fragile!Aaaaand if nn went down andxwe hadnt brought on a number two ruck wed end up playing him predominately in the ruck
No
If his brother Mitch is half the player Jeremy is he is a steal for the Crows at pick 43.Can we just clone McGovern one for defense, one for the forward line and one for me![]()
