- the Twin Towers collapsed?
On a normal school day, I turned Sunrise on at around 6:30am. I was the first in my family to know, and didnt have a clue what the World Trade Centre was, but it looked important. Told mum, and she instantly knew how serious it was.
- you heard about the 2002 Bali Bombings?
I think I was sleeping over at a friends and recall his father waking us
- Princess Diana died?
I just returned from a friends 9th birthday party, and a good AFL game on TV was interrupted by the news(might have been late in the bombers upset over the Crows) There was tornado-like weather outside as well.
I can also recall watching a Swans game that was also interrupted by Thredbo news several weeks later. Actually, I think it was the Stuart Diver rescue.
- your club won its last premiership?
at home. My swans parents were a little deflated, but generous in defeat. Year 12 exams were only a few weeks later. Like in the final 5 minutes of the 2005 GF, I was wandering around the house in absolute unintelligible torture. Remember wearing my WCE heritage jumper, drinking the first beer my dad ever gave me, and returning a video on pushbike in all my glory.
- cathy freeman lit the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony in 2000`
watching on the box. the 2000 opening ceremony was very memorable.
- you heard kevin sheedy had been sacked?
meh. His press conference was probably just after I joined Navy Recruit School.
- steve waugh/shane warne retired?
more meh. Cant remember with Waugh, but remember the breaking news on Warne, just following the series-winning test in Perth.
- you heard bin laden was killed?
Lol, I know it was only recently, but I cant remember, thats how insignificant it felt to me. I might have been at work.
- saddam was caught?
No idea.
- port arthur massacre in 1996?
I was only 7yo, remember discussions about it with parents and teachers, but cant recall the initial moment I found out.
