Where were you when...

- the Twin Towers collapsed?
It was back before I had Foxtel,so I just had the Ten late news on in the background while I was on the computer and Sandra Sully broke the news and showed the first plane crash. Then of course while showing live coverage you saw the 2nd plane hit.

- Princess Diana died?

Wasn't that a saturday morning in Aus ?
From memory I just watching some saturday morning TV when a newsflash broke in.

- your club won its last premiership?
At the game

9/11-mum shut me out of the room because I was really young. Therefore I was at home sitting by myself outside the lounge room

Bali bombings -again at home, don't remember

Diana-lol I was born that year, have no clue

9/11- woke up and got ready to go to school and went out of my room and everyone was up watching the TV.
Bali bombings- Can't really remember the exact moment except seeing various news reports
Saddum execution- Again can not remember but I do remember seeing a leaking video on youtube of him being hung.
Michael Jackson- My ex was in labor. Went for about 25 hours with no sleep then he finally was born. went into the little tea room to freshen up and get a coffee and heaps of the staff were sitting watching the news about it.
Sydney Siege- Was painting a house and heard it on triple j.

port arthur and diana I remember but was too young to really remember many too many of the details

Where were you when...

- the Twin Towers collapsed?

Was asleep, my mum woke me up the next morning telling me what happened, the first thing I said was "is it April fools"

- you heard about the 2002 Bali Bombings?

Can remember seeing news reports next day, didn't sink in until they mentioned how many were missing

- Princess Diana died?

Was in my study at home listening to abc grandstand of the footy, remember tim lan going on about how wonderful she was.....it was the first time I think I'd seen all channels show the same thing at once. But seriously how many time could they say "princess Diana has died"

- your club won its last premiership?

Was in Milan, I'd had a horror September with nerves thinking "this could be our year". I was living in London and my girlfriend (now wife) is from Poland and it was driving her nuts! I told her "don't worry whatever happens this week it will be all over and we can enjoy ourselves in Italy next week (it was my birthday that week).....then the bloody draw. I watched the game online and when we won ran like an absolute goose around Milan with people giving me strange looks.

- cathy freeman lit the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony in 2000`

At home with family in lounge

- you heard kevin sheedy had been sacked?

Couldn't give a toss, although was amazing to think he'd been coaching solone

- steve waugh/shane warne retired?

Watching online

- you heard bin laden was killed?
Was in London, can't remember where

- saddam was caught?

Watching on the tv at home

- port arthur massacre in 1996?
Was travelling in the Northern Territory with family, the news reports were harrowing.

Some more, I expect some "wasn't born" comments:

Tiennamen Square massacre
- waiting for The Big Gig to start on ABC

Challenger / Colombia shuttle disasters
- can't remember in either case, remember the same jokes got recycled

Concorde disaster
- just arrived at the place we were staying in Barcelona, it was on the news when we arrived

Cyclone Tracey
- toddler, didn't know about it

Fall of the Berlin Wall
- not sure, I recall watching news of it on TV but that probably wasn't live (few unplanned events were at the time) and I may have heard before seeing any footage

Annoucement of the discovery of the first planet outside our solar system
- vaguely recall seeing the local newspaper banner was about it that day, hard to believe that until about 20 years ago it was not proven (it was presumed but not proven) that any planets existed beyond our system and now there are hundreds known and many considered possibly earth-like

Where were you when...

- the Twin Towers collapsed?
At home, wondering why Talking Footy wasn't on. What is this shit, who ***** cares about the WTC being on fire, what's the big deal, why are they....HOLY SHIT A PLANE JUST HIT THE OTHER TOWER!!

- you heard about the 2002 Bali Bombings?
I will always remember this one, because it was the evening of the first proper 'date' with my then housemate, who is now my wife of over a decade. We were going out for a "last night went well, let's do more stuff together" brunch the next morning when we heard it on the radio. Put a huge dampener on my emotional high.

As an interesting aside, my wife's birthday is September 11th. So her birthday is 9/11 and our first date was the exact day of the Bali Bombings.

- Princess Diana died?
Listening to the footy on the radio when my younger sister burst in crying.....

- your club won its last premiership?
Stuck in a weekend work retreat, getting only irregular updates! Oh well, I was there in 2007 AND 2009, so I guess it evened out.

- cathy freeman lit the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony in 2000`
At home watching it, wondering whether the thing getting stuck was supposed to be part of the plan.

- steve waugh/shane warne retired?
Probably listening on the radio somewhere....

Don't remember any of the others.

Ones I can remember

9/11 - Slept through everything until it was time to get up and get ready for school the following morning

Bin Laden - All over the news when I got to my hotel in Paris

Michael Jackson - Bali

Geelong's last flag - The G (last 3 of them)

- the Twin Towers collapsed?
Remember getting woken up by my parents to come and see CNN coverage or whatever. I didn't really think much of it until I was watching it the morning. Scary stuff.

- you heard about the 2002 Bali Bombings?
Nothing sticks out

- Princess Diana died?
Standing behind my grandma's couch watching the TV.

- your club won its last premiership?
MCG

- cathy freeman lit the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony in 2000`
Probably watching something more important.

- you heard bin laden was killed?
