Where's the Countdown Clock?

They should show the real clock at the stadiums. I'm paying good money to attend!

The coaches and staff have the real clock and so do the viewers at home.

Absolutely would not want countdown clocks brought in at stadiums.

There is possibly some inconsistency in it being displayed on TV but not at the ground, though. In a close finish like Saturday, I would rather the clock is taken away from the TV broadcast.

They used to do this, why did they change it? I seem to remember having no clue how long was left in the close grand finals of 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2009. But also equally remember seeing the seconds ebbing away in 2010..

A close game of footy is so much better when you don't know how long is left. I miss the days of watching football on 10 with their red time clock.

Think of a situation where a team is 3 points up with 10 seconds to go and turns the ball over going forward. Surely everyone would rather see the opposition with the ball, not knowing how long is left and thinking they have a chance to win than thinking a turnover is inconsequential to the end result. I'm not sure if there is any other sport with the potential to leave it's viewers in such suspense. I love it.

Would American football, basketball, ice hockey, the rugby codes be better if the players and spectators could only see a 'running time' clock?

I'd argue that with time outs and such the american sports are much more dependant on a count down clock than aussie rules.

I do find the finish to both rugby codes to be pretty anti-climatic. I'm not a huge follower of either though and that view might not be typical.

I rarely watch games on TV. But when I do any semblance of tension or excitement is gone.

The thought of the crowd counting down the seconds at the end of a thriller is enough for me to say NOPE.

As a supporter I don't give a damn if the coaches and players know how long is left - I don't want to know because seeing the clock approach zero kills the mood. If there are only a few minutes left in a close game, it's altogether better not knowing if the siren is about to blow and set the scores as they are.

'Will Team A get the comeback? Is there enough time?'

Hate the countdown clock, it has taken so much of the suspense away from close finishes. I would be gutted if it was introduced at the grounds.

Although everyone on the level one concourse at Etihad can see the clock looking at the tv's using the fox feed.

Completely disagree with this. The clock counting up builds tension at the ground in the final minutes. It's just an annoyance on TV.

Ridiculous notion. People aren't so thick as to not understand why a team is doing what they're doing (or in the case of bad teams, not doing what they should be doing) in the final minutes.

It's pretty easy to guess when red time is. FFS, the guys in raincoats come out with 5 minutes to go.
