Glad you’re one of the first to respond Harks. You’re an independent thinker.
Others will fly in to jump on the ship, yet there would be a big Thylacine 60 like on my post. He’d get it.
He had his flock that he led and influenced as you consistently pointed out, but he was a funny, witty bastard.
This is the only “social media” forum that I use. The place will be poorer for him not being on it, I hope that he can come back and contribute at some point in the future.

We are all independent thinkers, but sometimes choose to shut down our faculties for simplicities sake and play follow the leader.

Thy was very strong on some topics and no doubt he likely had every reason to be, but we (me included) can at items shut down debate because it doesn't fit in with our agenda. This is not a good way to go about educating if you're in a position to.
No one has ever changed their minds about a topic after being told they're an idiot to have the idea they have. In fact they'd probably fight harder for their stance and suppress critical thinking.

It’s something I have had to continually work on throughout my career and life in general. Having what is politely termed a “large personality” in a work context has created a number of challenges for me to address as I have progressed through the “managerial” ranks.
To say this is still a work in progress would be a massive understatement. It’s difficult to self reflect, at times nigh on impossible.
What it has done is make me a better manager, and overall, a better person. On the positive side it has allowed those that I work with to flourish, as it doesn’t limit our output to those of my own capabilities, personal bias or agenda.
It’s not easy, and in my circumstances, has only improved and become a focus with experience and a glacial path to some sort of maturity.
I wish I had the capacity to recognise and focus on it earlier.
It’s cliched, but you never stop learning.
 
I think Thy is an outstanding member of the forum and the forum is very much the poorer for his absence.

I don't know the background if any to his deciding to leave (if indeed there was a specific trigger) - but I am sorry to read that that is what he has decided to do. He is one of those blokes who kept the wheels greased so to speak - but I also understand and have sympathy for the amount of time it costs a person to participate at the levels he did.

You are allowed to change your mind and come back Thy - and if you do - forget all the nice stuff I just said I wouldn't want you going all sooky la la and teary eyed - not if you want to continue being a boni fide member of the more mongrel required club.:thumbsu:

Love some of the sentiments, pro and even anti-Thy. it doesn't matter as long as it's sincere.

Thy is just re-charging the batteries and will come back bigger, stronger, wittier and wiser. Taking bets now. :)

He sent me a very nice PM the other day. Even found out what his real name was ;) I think like a lot of others who just want to talk Carlton we got tired of the personal agendas/hypocrisy of a few. I hope he's back at some stage but if he isn't I hope he is well and happy.

We all need a mirror put up to ourselves every now and then and one considerate individual (you know very well who you are) put the spotlight on me this week..and damn it..they were right.

I feel this board (read every board) should be about the opening up of ideas and not the closing down of them. We can all learn and if we care, we shall.
