This time last year we had some young players who had been given a taste of senior footy, and in 2022 established themselves in the seniors: Ginnivan, McCreery, Murphy.

This time last year we had some young players who had been given a taste of senior footy, but in 2022 they didn’t establish themselves and hold down a spot in the seniors owing to form or injury: Poulter, McCrae, McInnis, Kelly, Ruscoe.

This off-season we’ve traded in a lot of experienced players; so you’d reckon it’d be even harder for that next tier of players coming through to establish themselves …

… so who of that next tier will establish themselves in 2023?

And whose spot will they take?

3 from that list would be a miracle.

I'd say, Carmichael, Reef, Krueger and hopefully McRae have the best chance.

I'm predicting Dean doesn't make it, but happy to be proven wrong

It's a good question. I don't know. I dont think any of them will establish themselves. The question might be which ones will make it into 2024....and macrae and kreuger are contracted. A few wont even make it to next year.

nice formatting btw. I might use the enlarged text idea in future posts. Its like an acceptable form of shouting

Hey 76, you have Reef in the poll twice. I’d like to vote for him twice, but…

And maybe add Johnson?

Unlike everybody else I’m not going to talk up Dean . He’s barely played a VFL game so unsure why people assume so easily that he’s some sort of saviour.

I am looking for massive improvement from
McInnes… he’s probably the most naturally talented from that 2020 draft batch… ( although his injury was the result of pretty poor body protection techniques so hopefully he can learn from that)
Carmichael. Natural footballer…. Needs lots of kms in the legs over summer
Kreuger. I think we will phase out one of Cameron or cox ( I hope they prefer to retain cox because he’s a better ruckman and more damaging in the air when on song) and run with a versatile second ruck. We have plenty to choose from but Freddy will cause some damage. Like McInnes he needs to find better ways to protect his body.

Special mention to Macrae. Mitchell and hill arriving at the club and adams fit will put him back in the pecking order but he’s a gun inthe making. Unlike henry he has the right attitude and work ethic.

Re Dean, I think the club extended his contract before he’s even played a game? Agree, we really have no idea but they must see something.

My biggest watch on that list is Kreuger, Macrae, MCInnes, Carmichael, Draper.
If we retain Poulter he is another who could blossom with a big preseason after a fine 2021.

Don’t these comments net off? Poulter’s no chance, IMO, but if they keep him on so be it. At least it won’t be a 5 or 6 year Brown odyssey…

I think Macrae is being given a proper apprenticeship and will eventually make it. Early in he showed he has the ability to deliver a beautiful kick inside 50m.

Kreuger just needs to be injury free and control his aggression slightly.

The others still have time to develop and in the coming years gaps will develop. Carmichael now has an opportunity to learn and hone his craft from Tom Mitchell.

Dean has time on his side and eventually may find a spot when Howe leaves.

Murley is the Smokey imo - have only seen very limited action of him but has the pace to be a good fit in our game style.

The only one I would write off is Wilson.

Thanks, one of those should be Kelly.

I can’t edit the poll unfortunately.

I left off Johnson because I took it that he had established himself and owned as spot in our team at the end of 2022

It's a bunch of very average players isn't it, the only one I see possibly cracking best 22 is Dean.

Not high at all on Carmichael like some are, possibly the worst disposal of any mid that played a senior game this year.

I liked the picks of Draper and Mcinnes at the time, there's potential with both but I'm not convinced.

Murley has looked good but I'd have others like Hill ahead of him.

Macrae has been the best of the lot in the 2's, but is he just another VFL specialist like Broomhead was?

I look forward to our four consecutive wooden spoons in 2025-2028.

Clearly Reef Mcinnes will be at least twice as good as this year.
