Birchall for me. If he can average 80 from here on in then i'll be happy(i've got a feeling his best this season is yet to come though). It was the safest option for under 300K IMO. It's little bit like a flooding technique, he won't move me up the rankings but this particular selection won't make me drop either.
Was between him and Newman for me. But I did want the same kind of thing as you. Someone solid who can get me 80 each week - I am going for league victory now.
I think McMahon, Newman and Birch are the best for that scenario - and I don't think the other two are really worth spending the extra dough on. Birch it is for me too.

I've got a few options because I have two backline emergencies in Lower and Hartlett.
I can use 2 of 4 trades and upgrade Cornes to Mackie.
I can wait a week and asses the options.
I can pick up Drummond this week.

I was going to go Drummond but just looking at his draw he has to play the 3 least points against teams. One player who is a big risk I'm looking at is Waite. He is extremely consistent, averaging over 80 in the last 13 weeks which is pretty good. Thoughts on Waite?

As a Carlton supporter, he can be very frustrating at times. Some times he looks a million bucks and others he looks like a nervous rookie!

That said, if you take out his first 3 games this year, he has averaged 83ppg, which considering the performances of the backline this year is pretty good! A big factor of how he goes for the rest of the season will probably be whether he is required to play a tight checking role, relatively loose in the backline or is sent forward. Carlton's last two games of the year are against Brisbane and Hawthorn. He may not be option one to play on Brown and Buddy but there is the possibility he might spend a bit of time on both of those players. This could end up being good (the ball will be coming his way a lot) or bad (he might play the tight checking role and not get easy possessions)!!

Anyone have any thoughts on my following options?

Current backline is - Shaw, Goddard, Ibbotson, Gilbee, Kennelly, McLeod, Cornes (Hartlett, NJ Brown).

Have the goals of trying to win both of my leagues (should finish top 4 in both) and cracking the top 1000 (currently 1400 odd). Others that may need trading at some point are Palmer, Cox and Kennelly. Traded Ablett out last week for Bartel (took a gamble on how long he would miss) and would love to get him back in for finals if he drops enough in price to swap Palmer for him (thats a big IF though!)

I have $76300 in the bank ($371700 total with a Cornes sale), with 3 trades remaining and have 4 choices for what to do with Cornes:

1. Trade him straight up for a premium back such as Mackie - gets me probably the best back but leaves me only $8200 for last 2 trades.

2. Trade him for Milburn - gets me a very good back and is 30k cheaper than Mackie. Leaves me $39000 for last 2 trades which could be very useful if it is someone like Kennelly that needs to be traded.

3. Trade him for Birchall - gets me a solid back who has been underperforming so far this season. Unlikely to average as much as Mackie or Milburn but would leave $83600 for my last 2 trades and may possibly allow a straight Palmer to Ablett trade before finals IF their price differential drops to that figure.

4. Hold off for now and play Hartlett for a week or two and see what develops. Will probably cost me 30-50 points per week but would allow me to get a clearer picture of whether Palmer/Cox/Kennelly were likely to see out the year.

Decisions, decisions! I guess this is what makes dream team so much fun!!

Love to hear any pearls of wisdom from others! Cheers and have a great weekend!

I went for Milburn in the end, seems most likely to score consistent 80's, seems to rack up some good rubbish time numbers in the quiet games and can score over 100.

Just to throw up another name....

Andrew Welsh...playing a tagging midfield role now and had 30 odd touches a couple of weeks back. Missed all but the first 15 minutes last week but looks set to return again on Saturday.

Cheap as...but a fairly huge risk...

It is a massive risk......but considering who else i can get for chad guerra/mattner/malceski/osbourne i think Welsh could turn out to be very handy especially with essendons great run home

lots of thinking to do

I'm one of the non 80k people that don't have Shaw, so I'm going with Heater on the basis similar to Butane's flooding theory, not gonna put me up in the rankings but it will sure keep me more steady

I had my eye set on Symes or Newman but am just not convinced!!
I'm not convinced either will even hold their current average. I'm thinking about taking a punt on Mcphee.

EDIT: Thinking about Guerra, anyone going with him?

that's exactly what i was thinking re Newman

Picked up Welsh for Chad based on this and Jaymin's post.
His 3 goals and 50pt first qtr is a dream start

I got Mcphee!! Enough said.
One of my 3 players has scored over 30 in the Bombers game
All have under 50 and its almost 3 qtr time.

As I write that Mcphee goes bang + 12 onto 40.
Swan goes to 61 and Heater to 16:eek:
Looks like a low scoring game in terms of DT.
To bad my dud opponent doesnt have any of those players:mad:

EDIT:
Funny what just 30 mins of footy can change...
Mcphee 88
Swan 99
Heater... Screw Heater! 28

Who would be a good back that is valued close to or less then Chad. I'm done paying money for backs and would like to keep my spare cash to upgrade a couple of players (6 trades left).

On my potential list:
Gilbee ($308K)
Mattner ($296K)
Waite ($308)
McLeod ($250K)
Ibbotson ($275K)
Guerra ($247K)
Drummond ($275)

Welsh, Ladson, Bradshaw, Massie.....

Just want a player who will (hopefully) play out the season and get reasonable scores (esp after this week's Shaw/Milburn/Wona disaster).
