Having a look at this list there is not another club that could produce the depth of the champions the blues have produced over the years.

PS: SOS should have @ least been nominated.

I think your dreaming. I don't mean to troll but when I first saw the list I couldn't help being surprised that a club as strong as Carlton couldn't produce a stronger list esp when looking for a best player of all time Jezza for instance only ever won 1 club B & F. Also Wayne Johnson was a good player and his best was amazing but I couldn't imagine him making many clubs Top 10 of all time. (Although it could have been SOS.)

No other team was represented to that level.

Williams is the best Carlton player I've seen.

Tough centreman who was a great kick and handball on both sides of his body.

Didn't have a preferred side.

Also had the vision to see the game unfold ahead of his opponents.

Anyone that chooses a player aside from Alex Jesaulenko, obviously never saw Jesaulenko play.

The title is a bit ambiguous. I saw Jezza play, but I voted Bruce Doull due to some serious man-love. Can't remember Big Nick, but he was the best I'm told.

Doull was one of the most balanced players I've ever seen and seriously almost never beaten. Jezza walked out on the club after the man he backed got done in an election. May have cost the club 4 in a row.

Would like also to see Kenny Hunter and Andy McKay on that list, just because I think they're great players; with McKay particularly underrated.

Carlton have won just the eight flags since the sixties, so I guess we've been short on talent.

The only "weakness" you could throw up is that we've had few Coleman Medallists and marquee forwards.

Fevola would be up there if he wasn't a tool.

The Blues' 1995 side had one of the strongest midfields and backlines ever seen.

McKay wasn't beaten that year.

Macka once asked Steven Stretch why he was standing on the boundary line and not going for the ball.

Stretch replied that he was instructed to as a plan to keep McKay out of the game.

Ratten is one of my favourite Carlton players of all time.

Cover the Blues? You're dreaming! Have the ability to match them perhaps, I'll accept that, but you're kidding yourself if you think the Hawks list has some kind of clear superiority. Most of those Hawks already played in the one team; and while dominant, they didn't win every game or GF, even against other, more mortal, teams of the day; against this Carlton dream-team it would be even more difficult.

Nonetheless, I'd pay a lot of money to see a match with all these players in their prime. Matthews and Diesel at the same centre bounce; Kouta on Knights could potentially be a beauty; Southby vs Hudson & SOS vs Dunstall again. You can only dream.

I am not arguing against Carltons greats just replying to the assertion no team could produce the "same depth of champions". Since i have been watching 1960s, Hawks then Blues have been the most dominant sides through these eras

This is a compliment to your club not a knock.

Remember in this time frame Hawthorn have won 10 flags to your 8 and no spoons to your 3.

You Carlton boys are sensitive.

Accept an opinion for what it is. I see Hawthorns list (the list I quoted was off the top of my head there maybe a name or 2 I left out, perhaps Crawford or Mew) as being a better than the Carlton one. Both are fabulous and no one else maches them but I rate the Hawks as better.

Matthews is clearly the best player either club has ever had, I dont think many would dispute that.

Key position forwards are the most coveted players in the comp especially through the 60's to the start of 2000 and who can match a trio of Hudson/Dunstall and Brererton.

You can rate it a tie and I make it Hawks 1 and Blues 2 with the rest of the comp trailling in your wake

I put up a list of players head-to-head already, so I'm not sure why you even asked that question. SOS used to own Dunstall, Hudson and Southby match up very well and Doull simply shits all over Dermie as a player.

Here's the list if you want to discuss how they might match up and you can back up why you think those match ups give the Hawks an edge and I'll do the same.

Think you have misunderstood me here. Hawks have a group of 3 KP forwards that easily outrank whatever any other team can put up from the 60's on. To me KP forwards through these years have been the most important players in a team so thats a plus to the Hawks. I wasnt comparinfg Hawk forwards to Carlton backs rather saying Carlton dont have a group of KP forwards that match Hawthorns

Wasnt thinking of individual comparisons of how one Hawk fared against one Blue that you are alluding to. Dont think that is sgnificant enough to place a lot of emphasis on e.g the fact that SOS played well against Dunstall is a feather in his cap but doesnt diminish the fact that Dunstall is one of the all time great FFs.

I am rating their place in history overall not their individual records against one another
