1 of them, the Scum actually lost to St.Kilda and claimed the victory the following week in a second chance draw. 1913. Most of them are round robins.

They are minnow club, only 4 premierships since 1970.
north fans throwing the minnow tag around, priceless.

Yeah if there’s one thing I associated with the Ablett, Bartel, Kelly, Selwood and Ling of 2007 it’s that all of them were huge

People will look for things that don't exist because they want it to be true

They have nothing. Again - Geelong purchased some things off Dank's company. This was AFL approved. An investigation was done. Cleared. End of story
Dean Robinson was good at Geelong - a good, competent environment with a good off-field team

Linking Essendon and Geelong through a couple of people is a false hope, as the circumstances were completely different

Tom Hawkins has always been huge. Had about 80% fat on his body when he started.

Everyone in Geelong knows that Geelong players have been getting special deals on everything from cars to land forever and a day.

Plenty of under the table stuff happened down here over the years.

Thank god for cleanskin club's like Carlton who have never resorted to shady under the table deals 🤔

Arghh.

The old "everyone else is doing it" excuse.

A true timeless classic

I can never understand people who think that 'cheating' is a bad thing in a tribal competition that only really means much to traditional Melbourne tribes.

It isn't 'cheating' trying to lure the best players you can to make the best team you can - it is common sense- only in socialist 'straya do you have nonsense rules invented by swine who like to sell the notion of 'equalisation' - only to send advantage over advantage to invented franchises or failed and kicked out of Melbourne losers - all in teh name of a faux 'National' competition - a prop to TV revenue trough.

If you read some history of the competition - Clubs pretty much did whatever they could to jag a flag - Richmond and Collingwood bankrupted themselves in the 70's poaching each other's players in a relentless quest to be winners.

I'd rather have an open no holds barred competition than the cheating pretty much monopolised by the so called AFL handing out any advantage possible to its BS-invented franchises....like YOUR Club.

Whispered sanctimonious mutterings from you have no credibility after COLA - none zero zilch - enjoy your academies and other privileges and just stop whining about so-called 'cheating' when your club is the beneficiary of a fixed competition.

Carlton easily, unfounded arrogant club and supporters from a side that's been and embarrassment to the league for 20 years and counting. Even more strange is they are proud to admit they were only any good in an uneven competition where they could get an advantage due to dodgy affiliates.

The sooner the game can be rid of ear cancer media types like Any Maher bombarding us with their constant verbal diarrhea , the better off we all will be.

Between 1967 and 1989, only Richmond, Carlton, Hawthorn, North Melbourne and Essendon won flags. In those 23 completed seasons, 19 were won by Carlton, Richmond and Hawthorn. How is that good for a 'competition?'
By the mid 80s, this 'competition' was effectively bankrupt. Essendon, Carlton and Hawthorn were financially fine, but every other club was down the crapper.

The AFL did the right thing by introducing a salary cap, canning transfer fees, and introducing a draft. It finally took away the rich clubs' absolute advantage over the rest. All of a sudden, shrewd recruiting and list management were crucial to success. Some clubs managed well, while some didn't.

I am against COLAs, but I like academies. I think every club should have access to one, and a benefit in retaining players from that academy - similar to the Under 19s

Richmond and Collingwood undertook a player war in the 80s. It was a harsh lesson to all. GR was enigmatic.

Since 1995, every club has won a flag except Fremantle, St Kilda, GWS and Gold Coast. The AFL's strategy has worked brilliantly.

The last thing we want is a, 'no-holds-barred' competition like the EPL where the richest clubs bought by foreign interests statistically are the only chance to win. If you're a smaller club, you never have a chance. You can't retain your talent, you can't develop top players as regularly and even if you do, a bigger club just steals them.

Has to be Essendon, even today after perpetrating the biggest sporting scandal this country has ever seen they defend their original position.

They revere Hird, a more cancerous blight on the game is yet to be seen, and defend him to the hilt.

And let's not talk about how they under Sheedy invented aboriginal footballers.

Cheating is clearly the thing that is hated most. Proper cheating. Carlton, Essendon and Geelong. All proper cheats.

Recency bias of success in Hawthorn having the 23rd man in Stevic and Richmond supporters being intolerable hasn't really featured.

The Drug cheating of Essendon and Geelong as well as the salary rorting of Carlton for so long is clearly what most people hate.

It superscedes everything.

In AFL la la land - some Clubs are more equal than others. It is a crock of BS run by peanuts with big snouts in a FOXTV trough.

Share some of the good stuff you've been smoking - and enjoy your AFL con artist gifted 'flag'.
Zero credibility M7.

When did Geelong 'drug cheat?'
Source, please
2007 was 15 years ago. You need to move on

I agree, but AFL has been about agendas since 1989, when they effectively forced a Fitzroy-Footscray merger

I am against priority picks and salary-cap allowances, but overall I think the system has worked well

Carlton has been 'disadvantaged' due to their own incompetence and outright mismanagement rather than the AFL system 'screwing them over'
Carlton did whatever they wanted, and got away with it, until...

Also, I hate 'Essedon', and have since the early 90s. The drug saga was a comedy show for me, and James Hird was over-idolised as this perfect golden-boy by their own supporters. Ultimately, he bit off more than he could chew and was way out of his depth, but refused to actually acknowledge that he had made a mistake (even false-idols are human, after all).
Wouldn't hate us too much. Thankfully you weren't investigated for Dank, The Weapon and Bomber Thompson being at your club during premiership years. We are your grenade blanket, be thankful that Essendon took it all for you.

Dank was never "at Geelong"
The club purchased an ASADA and WADA approved substance from him. It was all cleared by the AFL.
Thompson's personal drug use did not extend to our list. Matthew Stokes was an idiot, but that was independent of Dank, Robinson or Thompson.

Dean Robinson was good at Geelong. Had he not ended up at 'Essedon', his credentials at Geelong would never be brought into question
Dank's involvement at 'Essedon' is the ultimate black cloud that took down everybody else around him

Doc Reid and the players were left hung out to dry. Should never have happened.

My dislike of 'Essedon' goes back to the early 90s. The Dank episode only gave me an excuse to over-indulge in popcorn ;)

'Premierships'

Well there's no doubt who Caroline Wilson hates the most.

And that would be West Coast.

Laid the boot in today talking about the Eagles 'bumpy' pre season. They've got a couple of injuries, Darling who is playing the fool and about to be sacked and not wearing a Pride jumper in WAFL (like really who gives a flying ****.

But as usual she couldn't help but wind back the clock 15 years to the Cousins drug scandal.

She is a very bitter, twisted, nasty piece of work. And one eyed.

It ain’t just the Coasters mate.
But agree wholeheartedly with the last line

She must be going after West Coast now that they’ve told her to give North a break.

It isn't cheating luring the best players, it IS CHEATING WHEN YOU PAY OVER THE CAP.

To be fair, most clubs were doing that at the time, even my stupid (at the time) club - God knows who they were paying? But Carlton's arrogance not to come clean during the AFL amnesty on salary cap rorting speaks volumes for the contempt the club held for others. And lets not mention Carlton's desire to "BUY" North Melbourne when talking contempt for others.

As a supporter I preferred the old VFL days when the comp was played only in Victoria. But just about every club had its arse hanging out of its pants. A no holds barred competition (to quote you) would never last. The clubs would kill each other in no time.

Without the AFL Commission being formed by the clubs and tasked with increasing the revenue base, how many of the VFL teams circa 1980 would still be in existence? I'll guarantee you, both yours and mine would be consigned to oblivion. We'd only have memories of once powerful clubs.

The Victorian market was captured. As was the Tasmanian. Whilst SA and WA had their own strong competitions, their respective markets were sheltered. For the AFL to increase its revenue base to ensure the survival of its clubs, it had to engage the SA and WA markets, and enter the NSW and QLD market.

In order to entice the non-heartland states, concessions had to be granted. It's no use entering into a foreign market and not doing it properly.

The dilema for the AFL now is how much longer are they prepared to throw money at both GWS and GC given they have entry into those states already. And how much longer are they going to subsidise the AFLW competition (for want of a better word). The AFL's desire to see itself as the countries moral compass has created a rod for its own back with AFLW. The propaganda machine will try to lull you, but make no mistake, they're selling a lemon and we'll see how long for - particularly with the massive revenue hit the AFL has taken with Covid.
