I often wonder what else people want when they say "poor recruiting".... What in earth do you expect given the lack of high picks to use/trade?
Players who are coming into their footy prime now are generally the ones recruited in 2006-08. Great, please let us know exactly where they would have gotten a game in that side.

Danger or not we've gotta try and shake something loose from the GWS tree. So many midfielders!

We should be a very big player in the next FA period. Loads of $ getting freed up you'd think going off the oldies, who are
really declining quickly.

I want that ruckman from the Suns, a GWS midfielder, a small forward and Rance (just to piss of Tigers supports) and Danger and um... I think that's all for now.

We should try to be, certainly - but that's very different to being successful. As we're not one of the big Melbourne clubs, we're not going to be landing the big fish quite as often, and as such it should be seen as a bonus, not a strategy.

I'd love to know who if anyone we've got lined up for next year and if that is having an impact on who we are selecting each week...

Given that we have Kolo, blicavs, Walker etc that can play key back would anybody entertain offering up Taylor in the hope of landing a Treloar or Shiel.

Would love to land some early draft picks and load up on falcons midfielders Parish and Mathieson.

No, never in a million billion years. He's our only experienced key back under 30, without him we'd probably lose two or three extra games per year. Don't fire-sale your best players.

EDIT: Also, treat your best players well. Don't make them feel like anyone is expendable, just a number.

Easy to workout isn't it ?

One direction + up as in up the ladder
Hopefully it only a week JUB but they look a rabble right now, they will need to start well next week and concentrate for 100 minutes to get the 4 points even of the Suns at home.

There seems to be a lack of leadership-
1. At the club-the 1963 premiership team had a reunion this weekend. Would have been nice to bring them onto the ground instead of those bits of material on a pole that walked around the edge and had no contextual meaning
2.In the Coaching squad-getting rid of Taylor Hunt, poor skill development and continuing to play players out of position eg Johnson is not fit enough to play midfield let him work his magic in the forward line
3. On the field- the players are like browns cows or rabbits in the spotlight banging in to one another, handballs astray and kicks going nowhere. Only about two good passages of play today. And nothing changed when it all went wrong.

Um no, apart from Taylor being in our to 5 players, there is the matter of his having turned his back on a huge freo offer its bad for the culture to then offer him up.

Look if we want to be a destination club then we need to be successful on field. As good as Hawthorn are tactically they have done very well getting rid of average players for net gains, see Renouf for Hill and Gilham for Anderson, as well as poaching other people's players for unders-see Gibson, Gunston, Hale, Burgoyne, Lake, Frawley, McEvoy, Orourke etc. We need to be successful in order to do the same and we can attract good players without giving away the furniture, for example Dangerfield and to a lesser degree Scooter are probably gettable if we actually show promise on the field, but not if we start playing for picks.

Not to mention the Mark Williams trade. They made out like bandits in hindsight.

If I could pick one thing to change it would be this:

STOP PLAYING SMEDTS AS A DEFENDER. It just is not going to happen. He made a really good small half forward. Does anybody remember Round 1 2013 against the Hawks? He played a great game in the forward line and was one of our BOG. That is literally the last time I saw him play with confidence, and also the last time I saw him play as a forward. He is an awful defender, he has played at least 20 games as a defender now and has not made any progress.

I like Scott as a coach, I respect him and think he is the right man for the job. But holy **** he can be stubborn, and he really needs to give this one up.

Smedts needs to be a forward again, or he is not going anywhere.

To be honest, I thought both of them were ok today. It's hardly as though our forward fifty has been peppered with footies in the last two weeks, I don't think there's anything wrong with our forward setup at the moment.

And when its gone in, its been with defensive MF's in the holes, the balls has often gone wide to the boundary on leads or its been put on their heads hoping for a clunk.

GO Catters

From here--
We mus keep playing the younger players and accelerate the rebuild.
Rest the older players more often
I do not want to loose a player with promise like Walker because we are playing older players.

THe club has pickd injury prone players and it has come back to bight us.
Our reserves are thin.

Too many players like Vardy on the list.
Heaps of potential but in reality have not done much.

Our younger payers are OK, just, however other teams like the Western Bulldogs have much more upside.

The coaches also look a little thin compared to recent years

I think one of the key things for me going forward will be rewarding good performances and dropping poor ones; especially over any significant period of time.

We can't have guys like Walker banging down the door for selection and not play him. In year's past that was fair because good players might have been holding them out but not anymore.

The only players I wouldn't drop/rest would be Selwood, Hawkins, Taylor and Johnson.

Agree with the first 3. Not Johnson. Not anymore.

We are already transitioning, we had 8 players in the side who have played less than 50 games and 2 playing their second game. We can't drop all the veterans and play 12-14 kids and get belted every single week, that does no good for their development, so numerically I think they have got the number of young players right.

The only thing I ask is that they pick the right young players and give opportunities based on form, that the veterans get rotated so the young players get enough games. For example Walker should be playing instead of Simpson based on form, Mackie was poor and probably shouldn't play next week and a player like Blicavs who played well should get another opportunity in defence.
Agreed with all, except if Stanley is playing then I would replace Simpson with a midfielder. Lonergan Taylor Blicavs Stanley Simpson Clark Hawkins is way too top heavy.

I would love to play Walker but he probably won't warrant a game this year, which in my opinion is a result of criminal list management.

Exactly my thoughts with the late change yesterday. I was a bit confused.
