Guerra. I don't expect any of the kids from this years draft to impact anywhere near to the extent of the R/F/L brigade. If any of them manange a half-dozen games that imo will be a bonus.

Very much a learning crop this lot from what I can see, not AFL ready for at least a season yet.

have to agree, cant see any of these kids having anywhere near the impact of last years crop.

can see some positive in taking guerra, but see so many more positives taking a talented kid with pick number 3 in the pre-season draft. but yes i know its a given that gueraa is a hawk.

lets hope we gamble a little and pick markovic or mcentee at 3 in pre-season. go collingwood u know u want guerra..........;)

Give up on McEntee LH15. :p

Guerra should play 15+ games. I think we'll take a few rookies that are able to slot in right away (Steven Armstong?).

Agree with Matty about taking Rookies who have the body to play if required. Hopefully some backmen if possible.

Guerra will definately play games, how many is up to his form, but he's probably in front of Miller.

From the young draftees.... I can't see many of them playing at all from the draft just gone. I think Murphy and Little would be much more chance of playing before most of the this years bunch. So that's another two players who we can blood this year, plus Boyle, Dawson, etc. Those are the kind of players we'd be looking to get games into first.

Birchall probably has a bit of size and height about him already so he could be a chance to debut, but not much more than that.

yeah i think i will have to, but doesnt the prospect of bailey - mcentee ruck combination seem appealing ......... lol

i understand the need to pick rookies that are ready to play, but with our first 3 selections i hope we go 4 the talented kids still left in the pool. then the last 2 picks on some mature aged guys ready to slot straight in.

i just find it hard to take, the fact we are going to give some mature player a chance on our rookie list when in all likely hood he is a hack....... ie armstrong-peel-gilham-etc etc

we are still at least a couple of years away imo of really pushing 4 any sort of footy power. why the need to top up with guerra-armstrong-stevens-etc-etc

thats why pick 3 PSD should go on the best available talent left from the draft. already been stated that the draft went haywire after pick 35ish because clubs had to grab the 17 year olds because they werent able to be rookied. many many kids appeal that didnt get there chance in the draft. we have the oppotunity to grab 2 of them with picks 3 in both upcoming drafts.

keep adding to the nursery, until we have a stable of talent:D :D

We'll certainly go for a couple of talented kids who are left Lukehodge15. Grima, McEntee etc would be good picks.

But there is definately a need to get some guys with stronger bodies on to our list to protect the young guys incase of injuries. Franklin, Lewis and Roughead were up to it physically last year, and we were able to throw them into the deep end.

This years draft picks are talented but need more work on them before they are ready, so Guerra, and whoever we pick up as a rookie will hopefully be doing a job for us into the short term, protecting our younger players, and maybe even one making a spot the list their own. You never know.

I think I'd rather rookie a talented KP, such as Markovic. But I think Hawthorn have shown that we might look at adding another ruckman into the system given Ames and McKinnon are training with us.

But who knows. The rookie draft is more hard to predict than the National draft.

i dont think birchall will play senior footy next year. He wasnt selected to play vfl footy down here with the devils this year so it would suggest he is still a couple of steps away from making his debut. I would plonk him on a wing, hbf for the whole year at box hill and if lucky he may play a couple of games cum round 20-22. But i would think its still 12 months of vfl development for him.

I cant see any of the new kids making the early rounds at all. Selection will come from the list below for most of the season.

Observing this list of 32, notwithstanding pre-season injuries, I feel it will be the most competitive Hawks team in which to obtain a place for many a start of season.

Actually when you look at it ... hhmmm ... come to think of it, I believe my prediction of finishing 10th, season's end, is pretty conservative.

Barker, John
Bateman, Chance
Boyle, Tim
Brennan, Luke
Brown, Campbell
Campbell, Robert
Clarke, Tim
Crawford, Shane
Croad, Trent
Dawson, Zac
Dixon, Ben
Everitt, Peter
Franklin, Lance
Guerra Brent
Hodge, Luke
Jacobs, Danny
Kane, Ben
Ladson, Rick
Lewis, Jordan
Miller, Harry
Mitchell, Sam
Murphy, Thomas
Osborne, Michael
Ries, Nick
Roughead, Jarryd
Sewell, Brad
Smith, Joel
Taylor, Simon
Thurgood, Joshua
Vandenberg, Richard
Williams, Mark
Young, Clinton

The problem is, Gary, that in the last four years we've played 35, 36, 36 and 38 players - not 32 - over the course of a season due to injuries.

Moreover, of the 32 you mentioned, one of those is not even on our list anymore, another four that are bolded could not realistically be burdoned with carrying the load in their stage of development, and there's another half-a-dozen blokes entering their second season of professional football.

I don't like the odds of the remaining 20ish players staying fit and firing through 22 games. With a dream run of injuries we may limp out of the bottom four, but in all probablility we're destined for a bottom two finish this coming year.

Fair enough comment, Hodge_is_God. Let's hope there will be better management of soft tissue injuries.

Is that Ben Kane? I meant to delete him from the 2005 list I was working on. I believe he is still training with us?

Fair enough too but it is a developing team and they will need to have appropriately measured game time to assist in their personal development, IMO.

Ditto my latter comment.

Well as for commenting in this place it's all about we individual posters hopes and prayers in forecasting. I think we will do better than bottom two, if not our club will be in much strife for 2007, eg: coaching staff keeping their jobs, sponsorships and memberships for 2007 to mention a few aspects - not to mention the ruthless style of JK.
