Not interested in the FA crop any longer because I don't believe paying 1 player $1.25m is a good platform for success.

I'd rather we look at the teams that the money men are going to and cherry pick.

For instance Geelong are front runners so why don't we chase Stevie Motlop on $600-700k a year out the other side? Contracts (as Boyd, Beams and Griffen showed) are worthless so poach one out the other side if these other clubs are getting greedy.

I'd gladly give our first rounder this year for Motlop to compliment our insiders.
Agree, 1.25M invested in into one player, even if it is Dangerfield is a big risk. Plenty of options in a team the covers that sum for one player, someone gets squeezed.

I had a dream last night that Ahern ended up playing for the pies, Just a random dream as i never had a dream about football before.:D

I would not Mind Ahern at the Pies as he is a Great User of the Ball.

So, In you Dream. How did we get him?

Gws had many small options in pickett, lamb, smith, sumner etc and he just wanted to come back home to melbourne to play with hot-wheels and our other vic metro boys drafted that year at the pies :)

I really rate him so we should have a crack him and trealor

He would be another because GWS' cap is tight (hence their need for the Bulldogs to pay Griffen's salary) plus Isaac Smith or Matt Suckling if Hawthorn are players in FA again.

From what I hear he is a silky as Shaun Burgoyne

The only reason we should go after and pay a FA the big $$$ is if we are with-in the premiership window, otherwise it is a waste and would rather go after and develop potential young guns.

As for who we go after this year, if the powers that be decide that a premiership is beckoning. It has to be Danger and we would be an outside chance if he leaves. Geelong would be in the box seat, then Melbourne who can throw big $ at him. We are now probably just ahead of Melbourne in chances to get him. We are the biggest club in the league and now with the extra space in the cap (thanks LK and JT) can pay a bit extra then would have been the case a month ago.

Where is the 1.25 mil number coming from? Last numbers I heard were Hawks 700k + chance at flag as carrot, Geelong and pies 800-1mil. Admittedly they were rumoured and no hard sources from a while back.

1.25 is definitely up there but if it was a front loaded offer of 1.25 x 2 then 600k x3 years Id be fine with it. Which is 4.3mil over 5 years or 860k pa.

Rather that then Pay Blair, Goldsack, White and co 300-400k a year.

Fully agree with the last point, but rightly or wrongly Buckley isn't letting them go.

Neither is Stevens.

Is is a good player not elite.

I rephrase it then, the problem is most of our short people are vanilla and don't have a real point of difference or X-factor. Stevens does with his line-braking ability plus he accumulates well.

Our midfield needs Dangerfield.

Our side needs Dangerfield.

Our club needs Dangerfield.

After 3 years of players leaving this club in droves we need to land a big fish and be seen as a club players want to come to again.

We must make a massive play for him.
