WB will not have there best forward from 2011 and best defender for all of 2012. Cooney is up as trade bait as his knee is shot who knows where Lake will end up. There depth was on display in the VFL GF when PORT MELBOURNE made a mess of them. Players like Hargreave, Gilbee and Gia have lost consistency. Add to that theyve lost there best up and coming mid.

Im not sure where the WB will end up seems like trouble.

At least we made the GF with our young players, Sandy won only 6 games for the year.

Im not sure where the Saints will end up seems like trouble:eek:

Hall was by far your best KPF. As for Saad like I said he's shown more than the host of kids you had languishing in the VFL. I'd rather a future of Walsh Stanley and Sippos as tall forwards than Jones and Grant thanks.

Jones is already one of the best contested marks in the comp, what have the guys you mentioned done??

Howard, Tutt, Schofield, Dahlhaus, Wood (more a tall flanker), Veszpremi.

We have the players. Tutt, Dahlhaus, Wood have all performed in one way or another at AFL level, while Howard and Veszpremi have shown signs.

When?

Best young player the Dogs had by a mile is now at GWS.

Vez finished off the year well with a 19 disposal, 2 goal game vs Freo. Other games he came on as the sub he did alright in limited game time. He also has a 4 goal game to his name from his time at the Swans. He has the tools to be a player, but also the mental demons. If he can manage his disorder he will be a handy pickup.

As for Ward: at the time he'd be our best young player, and on talent he probably still will be. But give me a Roughead or a Jones for value to the team anyday. We can develop more midfielders, but KPP players are golden.

if I had played in last round vs Freo I wouldve had 29 poss and kicked 4. Vespremi is mediocre

I guess when you are playing a team as mediocre as Freo, anyone could be a star. WTF was Sandilands doing in that game?

True. Since they've come into the league you guys have won an NAB Cup, so you can talk down to them.

Righto, thread going off topic.

Lets try and drag it back towards the original discussion. I'm willing to concede Vez isn't a star, but find me his St Kilda equivalent and balance it out that way.

No-one knows what St K's kids are like. They could all be just made up for all I know. Never seen them.
No doubt one or two will come out and blitz next year under a new system but really you worry that so many of them haven't ever been selected.

I think WB need another target forward of centre. I had big wraps on Grant but he seems to have dropped off; doesn't seem to demand the ball. Rest of the forwards look good and that midfield should be good when Cooney is fit.
Lacking a fair bit off half-back, there were (plenty of) games when Murphy was running the whole show, and he can't kick it to himself. Question mark on Wood IMHO.

Tanked so they could finish below us.
Yep. Still got my Baz mask somewhere, it'll be a collectible one day, right?

Cooney will probably play a fair bit as a forward from now on. He's a decent lead-up target.

Guys like Howard and Schofield are still kids, they'll grow into their Murphy support role soon enough. You have a question mark on Wood but you ask any Bulldog supporter whether they are happy with his progress and the answer will be yes.

Yeah fair enough.
WB's kids have (undoubtedly) shown more - I just don't know how much of a yardstick that is, given St K's kids are sight unseen.
St K can probably bounce into top 6 next year without doing a lot different; WB are a half-step further along the rebuild path. Firm believer that kids learn more in finals.
Will be very interesting with coaching.

Grant probably struggled a bit knowing he was a decoy and not the go to target with Baz around. I'm expecting him to step up and learn a lot more next year though.

Grants natural position is at full forward. Not sure if he has the frame for it at AFL level though. Easily quick enough and can take a good mark. Will get outbodied pretty easily though if the kicks coming to him are up and unders.
