Each club was pretty bad in 2024, all three occupying the bottom 3 stops on the ladder but my question is, if you were a coach and you got to pick one of these three clubs to lead which team would you select? Which team do you think is the closest to challenging for a top 8 position again?

Also I apologise in advance if I have included players that have announced retirements. I didn't include the ones I knew about but I have likely missed others. If I have missed players feel free to tell me and I will correct it.

Also my criteria for including players is they must have played at least 5 or more games in their careers.

So which list do you think has the most promise going forward?

For me I would pick West Coast.

I know in theory North have the best list going forward but I have lost complete faith in them. They in theory have the tools going forward but they don't seem to be able to actually pull it all together. They have been at the bottom so long I don't think they know how to win anymore, or develop the young players they have.

I think Richmond are in for a world of hurt, especially if they trade out their best players like has been rumoured as I think gutting a list like that for picks never works.

West Coast though, while not good do have some good players. Their forward line is okay, they have a couple of good defenders and they just need to build their midfield. I think they are a few years away and need to heavily draft in the midfield but they are in a better position than the other two, that is just my feeling though.

North the obvious answer with their plethora of top end picks

Development of players is the real driver in this though. No point having a glut of talent if they don't get nurtured properly. Same applies to West Coast and Richmond

North and it's not even close

West Coast Next because of Reid Allen and Waterman

Richmond - With the Rumoured outgoings in Trade Period what will that list look like at the end of november

If the rumoured outgoings do indeed outgo, Richmond will be looking at anything up to about 10 x rd 1 picks in the next 2 drafts. If the rumoured outgoings don't indeed outgo, then the answer to the thread question is Richmond Tigers FC, easily.

North still seems to be unable to put anything together despite all their talent.

Richmond are at the start of a rebuild especially if they lose 4 of their best mid 20s players, this ones a mystery.
Could be North 2.0

West Coast are at least are 3 drafts in, with elite older players to teach the kids, and realistically not that far off moving up the ladder. Find a couple of cheapish role players, a ruckman, and 1-2 years of development and the eagles are back.
Have any potential go-home factor to sway things a bit too, nobody is going to pick the Tigers or North when theyre at the bottom of the ladder and theres 8 other clubs, in WA its west coast or Freo

Id pick west coast. No bias in my choice obviously

I think North has the best talent but would rather WC given their structure, ability to retain players, home ground advantage etc

Richmond are screwed for a few years and even longer unless other clubs overpay for trades and they nail the draft

Development worries me with North. Just got beaten by 20 goals by a side who started its rebuild 3-4 years after them. Concerning stuff

West Coast has the best blend of youth and experience.

For all the doubters, Tigers should still have some quality older players left to guide their kids.

North kids have so much talent, but their older players are pure trash. Unless this changes, the young players will become perennial losers like their older peers.

Speaking as a West Coast fan, North, and by some margin.

They shouldn't have finished bottom two this year. Surely - surely - next year with another pre-season under their belts the young North guns carry them to more than 3 wins. Xerri, Sheezel, Wardlaw, Larkey, LDU etc have proven they belong and have huge upside.
