Although it is quite early in the season, there are many players having an influence at their news clubs and some who might not quite be having the influence that clubs had hoped for.

Which new player is having an influence and which club got it right/ wrong? Are there any surprises?

Early days but the trade for Hannebery does not look great, Jesse Hogan is still finding his feet and quality defender Steven May is still off the park injured. The flip-side is Tom Scully looks like a steal and players like Hombsch and Adams have rejuvenated their careers at new clubs.

Discuss.

Tom Scully's game last week was an absolute highlight. He might be right in this discussion in a few weeks.
I think the only quesion with Scully was, would his ankle have a permanent effect. Pretty obvious it hasn't from.last week, happily, and he gets fully fit he will definitely have an impact.
Even in our early years he copped unfair criticism. An outside player needs his teamates winning the ball to showcase his attacking talents and his defensive work went largely unecognised.

Not so much on the field but replacing a ‘leader’ in Steven May with George Horlin-Smith has seemed to do wonders for the playing group. Very highly regarded for what he brings to the football club and already in the leadership group.

Neale and Shiel the overall standouts with Hombsch being huge after Rory Thompson went down.

Also why aren't Will Setterfield and Nic Newman on this poll ? Dare I say the OP is literally a 'Dero' ? :D

Seriously both have been shining lights in bit of a frustrating start to the season by Carlton.

GHS was always respected at Geelong just couldn't get a regular gig

Is May considered not a good influence?

Shiel still plays his game first and the team game second. Times yesterday he dishes the ball off and then walks around rather than find a spot to set up defensively/cover space. Very hard runner when he has the ball.
I would have agreed if you were talking about his game in the first 3 rounds, but he was very team oriented yesterday.

I wouldn’t say he’s a bad influence or anything, most of the blokes seemed to like him enough, although there is I guess a rumour about him an his ex-fiancé and why he left the coast (not well informed on this, don’t know how true it is). In hindsight he just wasn’t the leader we have needed. Regularly displayed poor body language as captain of a young side , couldn’t trust him to not do something dumb and get himself suspended, and evidently didn’t set high standards for himself or the other players in terms of getting fit in the off-season (going by his comments and condition coming into his first pre-season at Melbourne).

Still should be a good player for Melbourne once he’s up and about though.
