Next year's season will be...

Simpson 33
White 31
Murphy 30
ASOS 30
Rowe 30
Thomas 30
Kreuzer 29
Curnow 28
Casboult 28
Wright 28
Jones 27

Taking all things into consideration - age, injury history, pace, talent, positions can play in etc - I think ...

Jones is a decent chance of being in the premiership side because he's the youngest of the above and for a tall has genuine speed off the mark. Obviously he needs to show 2017 wasn't a flash in the pan.

Murphy MAYBE if he can stay injury free and flourish as a small forward. Likelihood is fairly low but not out of the question. He's the skipper and an elite talent so these things will be in his corner.

Kreuzer as a remote chance only because he's just such a hard worker. He's the type you rule out at your peril.

Curnow (barring injury) and Jones. Im basing this on us not being a genuine threat till 2021 onwards (reckon we'll make the 8 in 2020 but barring a Doggies style victory, wont be a genuine threat).

Curnow gets by on endurance and you dont lose that as fast as you do burst speed.

I reckon a sizeable chunk of that list (plus Palmer; you left him out) will be gone be the end of the trade/ draft period 2019.

Freeing around 2.5 to 3 million dollars.

Right in time for Shiel/ Kelly free agency and the window starting to open.

List management 101.

Mainly gut feeling but considering age, injury history, likelihood to move to another position (ie Murph forward), likelihood in descending order:

Jones
Ed
Wright
Murph
Kreuz
Levi
ASOS
Simmo
Rowe
White
Thomas

Obviously the chances drop pretty damn quick after the first couple. I could see Murph getting an extra year out of himself as a pocket/flanker. Kreuz it's all on if he can stay on the park. The last two years have been great and hopefully are more of what's to come rather than what we got earlier in his career. Levi and ASOS are really relying on a 'come from 13th' fairytale/miricle next year, maybe Simmo could sneak in for that too, but even if that happens got no confidence that any of those guys will actually be playing in the best 22. Slim pickings from there out.

Reckon you have a bit of work to do to convince the MC you are still best 22.

Maybe Wright
but if I am honest I think we are 3 years away from finals, 5 years away from top end of the ladder
assuming absolutely everything goes right

White is on that list because he hasn't been officially re-signed or delisted as of the commencement of the thread.

The moment we start talking about throwing Doc out as he is too old is when we cimoletely lose the plot.

What about Lobbe?

None. I would like to think that this time next year only Murph, Kreuzer and Jones are in the mix for our 22 out of those names.

I think Murph will hang the boots up at the end of 2019 and Kreuzer won't be far behind. Sadly I think he will have to retire young similar to Mumford

Liam Jones is the most likely candidate if he can continue with his great work down back, Wright and Curnow may still be on the list but probably not best 22. I'm holding out hope for Kreuzer, we would need to contend in 2020 in order for that to happen though.
