De Goey
Bontempelli
Cripps
Grungy
Walsh

that is all.

If you have the number 1 pick, you're probably on the bottom of the ladder. A few years of Dusty, Fyfe, Danger etc aren't going to make a difference. (maybe to membership and attendances)

I think that if you picked a player who was a top 5 player in your team who went on to leave as a free agent after 8 years most people would be happy with that return. That being the case, there are probably about 100 players in the competition who are good enough to warrant a trade for pick 1 if you could guarantee 5 good years out them which takes the pool to probably about 50. You could add to that though young players who look like they will be top 7 players from their draft (McCluggage, Taranto, McGrath (2016), Mills, Oliver, Gresham (2015), etc).

In reality this isn't the case at all and draft picks appear to be way overrated in trades.

*EDIT* ...and also Hugh Greenwood is worth pick 1 in a trade!

Croad Certainly was traded Pick 1 (and incidentally pick 3 in '97, pick 10 in '03, surely the player with the most points expended on)

Although Luke McPharlin was thrown in for additional picks 20 and 36. Arguably Luke was more value for Freo, but that wasnt the trade.

If your going to split hairs over multi trades, Id suggest there NEVER will be a straight trade for pick 1

The intersting thing is Hawks finished top 4, not last but it would be six years before they got back there again, and went low low in 04 05 and 06

is 28, plays an aggressive style that is hard on the body, would have 2-3 years at the top max. No club would touch him for anything above pick 5.

Judd was 4 years younger and didn't get pick 1.

Don't be daft....Without Martin the Tigers wouldn't have 1 Premiership, never mind 2.

He'd make a mid-table side a premiership contender immediately....Far more of a weapon forward than Judd ever was, who was also never the same player again post his trade back to Victoria because of his shoulders.

Which mid table contender has pick 1?

Don't be daft.

You said a mid table team would be better, no s**t...

The point was over the difference Martin makes & his overall value in the AFL landscape, as compared to Judd post his Carlton move at the same age.

I.E. Martin would still easily command a number 1 pick at the trade-table today because of his match-winning abilities.

No need to keep digging down chum.

You obviously didn't watch much football during Judd's career.

1) Judd could do anything he wanted during his peak. He averaged a goal a game at WCE the same as Martin does
2) Judd's shoulders were fine it was his groin that was ****ed and cost him a significant amount of his lateral movement and explosiveness, so he had to transition to being a more inside midfielder

oh and Martin did play in a "mid-table side" in 2016 where he only kicked 9 goals for the year. He is a top player but he is the cream on a good side.

No team in the top 6 is going to have a pick 1 and even if they did they wouldn't trade pick 1 for a 28 year old.

"easily"? righto.

Judd at the end of 2007 was a freak of nature who was only 24 who had already won a brownlow, norm smith and a premiership. He still didn't get pick 1.

Martin is 28 and isn't as good as peak Judd, he wouldn't get near a pick 1 from any team.

Fyfe wouldn't either and he is a better player for a struggling team, since his strengths are ball winning / contested possessions.

You obviously don't read too well….I stipulated post Judd's West-Coast career....I.E At the same age currently as Martin.

Judd only won a Brownlow at Carlton because there was no one there to take votes off him.

Remind me how many times Judd went forward in a big final to kick 3-4 goals & be the difference?

Martin is the current number 1 player in the AFL because he can do that.....If he aint getting the number 1 pick in a trade, then no one else is.

Some common-sense, please.

if walsh is ahead of rowell it wouldnt be by much

hence its not an "absolute joke"

rowell is a jet btw
it is, one hasnt played a game yet, one averages 25+ disposals, you have no clue how rowell is going to handle the pressure of playing senior AFL football. the fact you said you'd take an unproven player who's never played a game before over the best teenager in australia is certainly an absolute joke
