Hawthorn
just returned from the hawthorn xmas fun day which was used by the club to honour two retiring players in brendan krummal and paul salmon......
just thought that as supporters we dont get enough of a chance to thank the many players whose careers have ended this year.......
personally i always feel sad when a champion player has to call it a day and retire..... and from the hawks there have been many over the last few years.......from this years group i will miss paul salmon the most.
i would think that there has been no better servant to football than "the fish".....
he has been enormous firstly for the bombers and then in the last 5 years for the mighty hawks..... not only as a player but as a character......
and he is one of the few players who treats the fans well and is always willing to sign autographs and share a joke or two with them......
luckily for hawk fans he is remaining at the club in the role as a ruck coach.....

so who from your clubs retiring players will you miss the most and why........

Oddly enough, I will miss Daniel Southern. I like seeing players who don't resemble robots, and display a large amount of character.

BTW Dutch Rules, I do agree with your sentiments on Paul Salmon. He was one player that actually transcended club levels. Very few players can do this.

For instance, I was at Geelong a few years back (Rd 2 Geelong vs Richmond) and they had Billy Brownless do a lap of honour in a car before the game. The ground announcer was extolling everyone to give him a standing ovatation. Like Hell!!! At best he was a good ordinary player that happened to be a popular media identity.

On the other hand a few years back when Melbourne played Richmond in the first round, A lap of honour was held for Jimmy Stynes. There was not a single person sitting in the stadium as he went past and the reception was heartfelt from both Demon and Tiger supporters. No need for any ground announcer to try and pump up the crowd for him. One of the true champions of the game.

Rehn will certainly be missed from Crows, but the again, he is not retiring.

Apart from him, no-one really.

Which rather makes a complete nonsense of all those "Crows to slide to bottom place" predicitions you tend to get on this borad posted by "i just wish it were so" types.

Yep Salmon, Boris & McKenna for mine.

Lewis has been as good as gone for some time now (shame). I'd actually miss SOS if he had the good sense to retire rather than risk buggering up his fine career by being a really mediocre...

Thanks for the memories Boris!

Sorry Bee,

Fraser Brown may have been a handy footballer. But a Gentleman????

I don't know what he is like off the field, but on it he was nothing but a psychotic nutbag with a lousy haircut.

Gavin Brown : An absolute champion who gave his all each and every time he wore the black & white. The most courageous player I have ever seen on the Football field.

Gavin Crossisca : Extrememly underrated by most outside of Collingwood, but like Brown was one of the 1990 premiership heroes and will be missed.

What about Peter Caven....I'll miss him and I'm sure the team will as well.

Also, even though they haven't retired, but were de-listed, I'll miss Kymmy Koster, Brett James and Troy Bond. They have been great players for the Crows, especially during the Premiership years. Kym's personality will definitely be missed down at Footy Park.

He may have had a temper control problem on the field but I wouldn't call him a psychotic nut bag. And those curls are angelic!
I'll say it again. He is a champion and a gentleman.
Don't judge a person on reputation. It is their character that counts.

Agree to disagree on that one Bee.

We probably have opposite views on Scotty Turner.

On which part are you disagreeing?
I know most people don't have a high opinion of Fraser, but as I said, don't judge someone on a reputation that is only superficial.

Gavin Crosisca-

This guy was my favourite player since I was about 6 or so, should have got a better run in 2000 seeing as it was his last season with the pies, just too bad he couldn't stay with the pies after his career like Gavin Brown (who i'll miss too)
would have been mad if they both stayed on at the club together.

I'm with you Bee Brown was a gentleman. He always apoligised after elbowing his latest
opponent.
A thug and good riddanceto him.
