The Rocky movies are up there in my top 10 movies. I love them all except for Rocky 5, which was a result of the big studios trying to tell Sly the way the script should read.

The best ones are Rocky 3 and 4 in terms of excitement factor, whilst as just a movie I think Rocky 2 is the best.

Rocky 1 and Rocky 6 are also very good movies and the last 30 seconds of the Rocky 6 fight is unbelievable. Stallone nearly ended up in hospital, its full on.

All in all I picked Rocky 4 JUST ...

great thread, All the movies are entertainign but in terms of substance ROcky 1 is by far the best movie and there is a general consensus among the film industry that Rocky 1 is by far the best. I thought Rocky 2 was a good sequal up until that run he did through the Philadelphia which made me cringe. No 3 was at best adequate and no 4 was utter garbage. I thought no 5 wasn't to bad and definetly not deserving off all the criticism it got and i actually quite enjoyed no 6. In order i rate 1 the best followed by 2, 6, 5, 3 and 4. And while i felt the series tailed off after the original, ROcky 1 will always be one of my favourite movies, the type of movie i could watch again and again and again.

'iam bonna get you Balboa' or when he is aked what are your predictions for the fight and he answers 'pain'.
Rocky 5 is terrible and should be taken out of the poll

1 is slow and boring but needed for character development.
3 has Mr T which pushes it into first place.

Anybody who is even considering 4 is forgetting that freaking robot.
Very lame.
The robot from The Revenge of the Nerds would whoop it easily.
No training montage required.

A great underdog story. The first Rocky was the best. Rocky 5 was the worst. Have not seen the latest yet, so this opinion may change.

Rocky 4 for me - it's got everything.

Death in the ring, revenge, the whole cold war undertones. Ivan Drago is the coolest Rocky villain ever - "If he dies, he dies".

Man - Reading this thread reminds me why there isn't a correlation between what are considered some of the best films of all time and what are the biggest money-making films of all time.

Rocky I won the Oscar for Best Picture - Now, far from being a definitive measure of quality, it should still give you an idea of whether it was the best or not.

I mean, the other films were thoroughly enjoyable, and you are most certainly likely to enjoy them more upon watching them again and again, but they aren't better films.

I've seen Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back about 8 or 9 times, and I've only ever watched Apocalypse Now once, but I know which one is the better film, even if I would probably watch another Kevin Smith movie or The Matrix before watching Apocalypse Now again...

Great thread!

Ok as far as actual quality the original Rocky is far and away the best. Dare I say a masterpiece and deserved an oscar.

But for entertainment value probably Rocky 3 can't go past Clubber! Rocky 2 & 4 next. Rocky 5 was crap and haven't seen 6.

I always found it amusing how after Rocky 2 a major character was killed off in each movie. Poor Mickey in 3 then old Apollo Creed (always think of Homer's classic line when I say that name!) in 4.

Rocky 4, i did a report on it last year for my school sac :thumbsu: I love Creative writing

Good quote from rocky 6 though

"its not how hard you hit, but how hard you get hit and how hard you come back" something along those lines. Very powerful

Rocky Balboa: Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!

Great stuff :thumbsu:

That's great writing.

And on stallone there was a question on temptation about him the other night.

Apparently in school he was voted 'most likely to die in the electric chair':D
