It's pretty amazing that just 1 win separates 1st through to 7th.

It's even more amazing that a team like mine can be on 13 wins and 6 losses (normally putting you top 3) and most ladder predictors have us missing finals altogether.

It's so even (and high standard) at the top - there's going to be one very unlucky team this year.

Wait until Collingwood play Richmond before rolling out a 1 game difference between 1st and 7th

Yes, I know - but the point remains given Gold Coast have a game in hand (an almost guaranteed win against Essendon), meaning that 2nd to 8th is essentially only a win apart. It's incredibly tight at the top with all 8 teams boasting a record that would usually be enough for top 4.

That Suns win blew it wide open again. Hawks have the hardest draw and Doggies are currently outside the 8, so playing catchup.

It's very unlikely maybe but could Brisbane possibly miss out? Have a tough draw as well and could get just 4 points in their last four.

Brisbane had a lot of outs, so it was never in doubt for the Suns.

Hang on? Who was out today?
Payne has been out for a while annd was ruled out for the season.
Answerth was already out last week against the Dogs and that’s also for the rest of the year.
The only new out was Lohmann? (who has been injury prone all year)

They even brought back in Zac Bailey who is easily best 22 and brought back McKenna who played in the 2024 Premiership win.

No excuses, they got bullied around the contest, fumbled the ball and never looked like firing a shot.
They got outclassed for nearly 4 quarters. Nothing to do with injuries.

Gold Coast have a bright future, then. 😇

It would be unprecedented (I think 14 wins has always been enough) but it could happen if Bulldogs win 5/5.
I would say impossible now
Gold Coast would need to lose 2 games and Doggies will have to win all there remaining games and Gold Coast have
Richmond at home - W
Carlton away - W
GWS home - 50/50
Essendon home - W
Port away - Win

Dogs will need to beat GWS to keep their hopes alive. Can see it being very hard for them to stay in if they don’t.
Giants game plan is built for Finals footy, their own worst enemy will be themselves, they’ve already knocked off Pies, Crows, Lions and Cats twice. Can’t ask for much more than that.

Hawks need to beat at least one of Crows, Pies or Lions along with banking an assumed W vs the Dees to keep themselves in it.
That run Home is pretty damn brutal.

Lions have a tough run but should get enough W’s to keep themselves up there, that Draw with Norf while hilarious in context may actually save their asses if they drop games from here,

Suns having that extra game to bank will help massively, Pies/Crows/Cats should lock themselves in for top 4…it’s just who joins them.

Any scenario for lil old freo? 😆

Our smalls in the forward line aren’t up to it. Yes West has come on and Weightman has missed the season, but we need two more quality players there.

Defence is just a shambles. Some of our supporters think it is purely a game plan issue and not the fact that we simply do not have the cattle.
I agree. JUH is a big loss too, provides more flexibility for others.

Need more small forwards and defense needs an overhaul.

I’d say Dale is the only one getting a game at the hawks from the dogs defense, it’s poor.

Hawks to miss. In a round where all the contenders are making a statement, they just limped over the line against Carlton. Very unconvincing team.
You didn't watch the game ay, just seen the scores.

Hawthorn will be a smokey in all 3 of their tough games. My gut says they'll win 1 of them (plus Melbourne), but I'm not sure which. Would 2 more wins be enough?
Silver lining going into these tough stretch of games is we are practically full strength outside Weddle so there's no excuses. We are either good enough to be a player in September or we are not. The way Mitchell managed Newcombe would suggest he's leaving no stone unturned.

Our lackluster last 3 quarters Thursday night could come back to haunt us percentage wise. Yes Vossy can take some of the responsibility for that as he was trying to minimise the chances of a belting but the midfield getting well beaten contributed too. We also played 1 of the teams outside the 8 that will play the season out for obvious reasons and had added motivation.
