This isn't really about 2018, it's about the period after 2018.

In that case, Geelong.

It has to be about 2018/19 as there is far to many variables that must be factored in to give anything other than a pure guess at who we believe to be in the most trouble!

And i dont know why it matters that superstars like Selwood, Kennedy, Pendelbury, Riewoldt and Ryder are 29, they still have about 4 years left!

Also since I am bored, here are the best 22's the AFL website has, minus the players who are over 29

Thompson, Waite, Goldstein and Higgins.

I doubt either of Waite or Thompson will play a KPP role in 2018.

Goldstein and Higgins could have 100 games left in them.

I wouldn’t have Hartung anywhere near the best 22 either.

I don't see much trouble. :hearts:

Worth noting that Richmond's situation got worse this week.

Our only real concern is with tall forwards, and now our no2 option there, Ben Griffiths, is gone.

I suppose the upside it that it'll mean more opportunities for the kids to get games, but our reliance on Jack Reiwoldt up forward has increased considerably.

I dare say our enforced 'strategy' of only playing one tall forward is likely to see more use in 2018.

You can probably delete Harley Bennell if being realistic.

Gilbert is the only one over 29yo in this group, at 31yo, and he will be harder to replace than most who don't barrack for us probably realise, as he just does what's asked of him week after week, and is able to play literally every position on the ground if we need him to plug a hole, and down back he can play on so many different types. He's also the best suited on our list to the 3rd-tall role down back that he mostly plays, and his tackling and speed are also close to the best in our side. He is of course also wonky by foot and prone to brain-fades though, so the better kicking and decision-making of potential replacement options like Brandon White and Nick Coffield would be welcome. Given that he's generally an extremely fit type and missed a lot of footy in his late 20's, he may be able to squeeze out 3 more seasons, if needed, tho (31/32/33yo).
If Sam Gilbert is one of your most important players things are worse than I thought.

I didn't say he was one of our most important, just that he won't be as easy to replace as many who don't see all the good work that keeps getting him games would realise.

The likes of you in particular, who just bag or sink the boots into us relentlessly, who only watch our games to look for the negatives we do, so that you can point them out in our match day threads each week.

Geelong having one last crack before they’ll need to rebuild. How’s GAJ’s heartstring coming along?

What odds he'll find a "new lease on life" and play 100 more games?

Higgins (1st in B&F) the only concern to replace for North in the coming years, even then he is 29 and so has at least a couple more to go.

Not unreasonable to expect younger players to replace Thompson (9th), Goldy (12th) and Waite (21st) in our best 22.

Edit: Of interest Wood, Preuss and Vickers-Willis finished 23rd, 24th and 25th in B&F.

Looks like I was close to the mark in last years thread.

Bulldogs..

Why? We are 3 of our best defenders a season from retirement. Morris, M Boyd, Murphy. That puts a massive experience gap in our defensive structure.

Every game that M Boyd did not play in over the last 2 seasons were losses. Go think about that for a moment and whilst I put a heavy emphasis on the importance of M Boyd, we simply cant gap that experience with only JJ, Wood and Adams at this point in time.

Although Morris is playing on, he, Boyd and Murphy were off the boil last year with fitness and injury as well as Adams.

We should be a little more settled this year.

Waite isn't your 21st player.

Look at your average votes per game would be a better indicator.

I think the list has two more years 2018 and 2019, after that it will need to rebuild.
