Which team needs a new logo?

Don't see what's wrong with St Kilda's current logo, it's simple and traditional.

Love the purple and white - I have been advocating dropping the red and green for years. Bit sad about losing the anchor - I wanted them to go purple haze and white away guernsey... but I do like the new strips. In fact, they are the exact designs I suggested on the BF Freo board about 3 years back... Incredible. I still have the designs sitting in my imageshack account from back then (done really badly using Paint - none of this awesome jumper design programs that posters use now...)

BUT - I hate the logo, and the decision to ramp up the use of "Dockers". It's a lame moniker, and the stupid "D" hanging around the anchor looks wanky, and the fact the Fremantle is in tiny letters, and Dockers is the focus, makes me want to puke.

I'm all for rebranding and modernising and losing the wharfie and refining it to just an anchor, but the "D" is dumb, and I much prefer that we are known as "Freo" rather than "Dockers". Just my thoughts.


But I agree with most others - the Port one needs some serious attention.

Dump the Southern Cross. Put the football in its place so one side has that, the other has the trident. And get rid of that stupid red thing above the "M" in Melbourne.

Agree, why do some clubs feel they NEED to have a change in logo? The old Fitzroy one on their guernsey was perfect. If it aint broke, don't fix it.

To the OP, I don't mind the Tiger's logo. Not the best, but certainly not the worst.

There is talk that the Port logo could be updated for next season. It was a popular suggestion from supporters of the One PAFC campaign, who thought that we should have a logo that both the Power and the Magpies could use in the event that the reunification was approved. Since this has now happened I would be surprised if the logo wasn't changed to bring the two teams under one banner.

Obviously this means no magpies because of collingwood and therefore probably no thunderbolts either. I can see it being a traditional shield of some description with double V and prison bar elements to represent both teams, with a bit 1870 thrown in there for good measure.

I think its the right move especially since the club will want to appear strongly unified to the corporate world in order to attract sponsorship, and whatever they come up with will smash our current logo for style as long as they go the traditional route like Melbourne have with their update.

Adelaide: that's a crow? Previous logo was a bit dated but it was still a better option.

Brisbane: not awful, but I've seen plenty of spruced-up versions of the Roy lion that look much better. That's the real problem.

Carlton: their entire brand is simple, so the monogram works.

Collingwood: pretentious. Suits Collingwood perfectly

Essendon: Poor. I've always been surprised that Essendon doesn't aim higher with its logo. Crap font, no sense of power from the bomber itself.

Fremantle: It still looks like Clippy at times, but it is growing on me.

Geelong: Meh. Where's the WEG cat?

Gold Coast: still don't like that monogram. Overuses bevels and gradients.

GWS: The G just doesn't work in isolation. Barely even looks like a G at times!

Hawthorn: I like it. Wish it said Hawthorn on it though.

Melbourne: Overcomplicated in its full form but it's the best they've had in a while. Take what you can get.

North: Something bugs me about it, but until I settle on what that is, it's fine.

Port: The jumper change worked well, a logo change to match would too.

Richmond: not bad but it's almost needlessly detailed. How are young Tiger fans supposed to doodle this in their schoolbooks?

St Kilda: If I had my way, 'St K.F.C.' would become 'St Kilda FC', but it hardly seems worth quibbling about.

Sydney: fine.

West Coast: Bloody ochre. We could probably do better but I don't want to take the chance, frankly.

Western Bulldogs: fine.

What on earth have the 1956 Olympic Games got to do with the Melbourne Football Club? Clearly they've run a shortlist of things that could possible be included in the logo, and some genius has just decided to put them all in there. Souds good in theory, in practice it just has too much going on.

Red and Blue - Colours
Shape - Logo
Trident - Demons
Football - Football
MCC - Links with MCC/MCG. Personally, I wouldn't have this in either, but I can understand the commercial reasons behind it.

That's all you need. The southern cross doesn't represent MFC in the slightest. Nor do the 1956 Olympics. In fact an improvement would be to either replace the MCC logo with the letters MFC. Or instead of that nonsensical writing on the blue, just have "Melbourne Football Club" repeated and not have it as plain words underneath the logo itself.

Just some ideas, no need to get so defensive.

Richmond and Port Adelaide have the worst logos in the AFL in my mind.
Well, logos like Carlton's are pretty bad too but they're never going to change their logo idea, maybe the font in which they already have i guess. Then there are the horrible logos of Adelaide and Brisbane which they won't change for ages either, those really are horrid though.

Essendons logo is boring and dated ..worst in the comp along with the paddlepops IMO.

As a graphic designer - this is beautiful. I say that not in the sense of scaleability, function and branding.

In my book that makes it a pretty bad logo then.

I fully agree. You use the word "class" regarding the Fitzroy lion. That's exactly what it was - class. The opposite of class is crass - this describes the paddle-pop lion. What is wrong with these administrators in suits?

And i agree. It isn't too busy at all. Would easily be the best logo in the AFL.

I think Essendon need a fresh, new, modern & simplistic logo.

A new logo would be perfect now to fit in with our new coaches, gameplan and era, it would symbolise that the Bombers are heading in a new and better direction.

Nah the one you have now suits. Wings shaped like knives and the planes on the tarmac at tullamarine, right next to your new home.

The English soccer clubs have great historical logos and it looks as though Melbourne have tried to steer in that direction. Much like Collingwoods and also much like Geelongs other logo
